I got a beard fade about three months ago, and he absolutely killed it. Clean, sharp, and exactly what I was hoping for. I also asked if he had time to trim a bit off the top — only if no one was waiting — and he made it happen. That turned out great too. I’ve been going to J. Black for about a year now, maybe a little longer, and he consistently delivers. He listens, executes exactly what you ask for, and brings a level of professionalism and customer service that’s hard to find. One thing that really stands out is his ability to make your hair and beard flow together naturally. He pays attention to the small details — whether it’s shaping the beard line with a subtle curve or keeping it sharp and squared. He’ll ask what you prefer, but if you’re unsure and let him decide, he genuinely takes the time to assess what fits you best. He doesn’t rush. He studies the angles, thinks it through, and then gets to work. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. It’s not just a haircut — it’s craftsmanship. Great Experience. Very friendly and confident. My hair is textured and can be very difficult. Julio handled with ease and left me with a perfect result. I have been looking for a barbershop in Boulder that can handle my type of hair and I will no longer be searching!

I’ve been coming to J. Black Barbershop for over five years, and I can’t recommend them enough. Julio and Catalina are both outstanding, both professional, precise, and genuinely care about every client. Julio’s attention to detail is unmatched, and Catalina always makes sure the shop runs smoothly with great energy and customer care. The atmosphere is welcoming, the cuts are always on point, and the consistency over the years speaks for itself. Also, there's Camila who's the best thing ever. Easily the best barbershop in town.

I’ve been coming here for a while now, and every visit is a great experience. Julio and Catalina are true professionals. On top of that they’re incredibly personable, easy to talk to, and genuinely make you feel welcome. The shop has a great vibe and it’s one of those rare places where getting a haircut is actually something to look forward to. Always a pleasure to stop in, put my phone away for a bit, catch up, and leave looking sharp. Highly recommend!

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Julio at J Black Barber Shop for 5 years now, and he always does a great job. Super reliable, detail-oriented, and I always leave happy with the cut. The shop has a chill atmosphere, good music, and it’s just a comfortable place to get a haircut. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a solid barber who knows what he’s doing.

BEST BARBERSHOP IN COLORADO!!! I have a hard time with Barbershops because they never are able to work with the way my hair grows. Catalina was amazing ! She was very communicative with what she thought would look best. Very detailed in her work. Great interaction overall ! Plus it's a family owned Barber, so support your locals!

J. Black Barber Shop is the best barber in Colorado. Julio and Catalina are incredibly talented, enjoyable to chat with, and all around wonderful people. I’ve been a customer for almost 5 years and they consistently deliver top quality cuts of all types. I’m impressed by the attention to detail, fair price, and the way Julio takes pride in the artistry of his work. They operate as appointment only, which is very convenient to show up and go right to the seat. J is an amazing barber! He is excellent at achieving exactly the haircut I ask for. His lines are clean. He focuses on every detail. He is also a pleasure to talk to. Every visit I leave with a perfect haircut and I leave more relaxed than when I walked in the door.
