I have been going here for about 2 years now and never had a bad experience. I personally go to Max and he has always been on point every time. I also love the atmosphere in the shop. They have such a diverse clientele and make every single person who walks through the door feel comfortable. They know how to cut all different kinds of hair no matter what ethnicity you are or what style you want, he can also give a great shave or sculpt you're beard up nicely. They know how to do it all!! They are very clean and sanitary and are very mindful when it comes to covid/masks ect...I would absolutely recommend them 👌💯

Went in there for a line up, and a beard trim. Came out with a friend. The experience was lovely and they treated me well. Had a great conversation with the gentleman who cut my hair, Mr. Grierson (sorry if I butchered the name) And the atmosphere was top notch. Not really living there, but if i was then he would be my guy for sure! AND HE ACTUALLY PRONOUNCED MY NAME CORRECTLY TOO. I should just give them the 5/5 for that alone

This barber 💈 shop is beautifully decorated and clean! I didn’t have an appointment, it wasn’t busy and I was able to be in and out in under 7 mins! My only issue is the price. I was charged $40 for an undercut. I asked how much does a hair cut start at, I was told $45. That doesn’t make sense to me. I paid and left a $10 tip. I definitely will not be back. I felt like I was taken advantage of; maybe because I was a female??? The salon next door to me charges $10 for an undercut. I always support black businesses, but I will not be played for a fool.

This joint is a true barbershop with all the fixings: Straight edge shaves, walls adorned with tons of photos, furniture with charm, and even a shoe shine chair. A huge window along the sidewalk is great for people-watching and people watching you in one of the three or four chairs. I had my hair cut here a few years ago by Max, who is such a friendly and professional man, but it's my spouse who comes back whenever we're in town as it's difficult to find people talented enough to cut African American hair in Hawaii. Edges are cut with precision and fades done just right. He even uses a light that professional photographers use to get better lighting while he's working on you. A cut will cost you about $35. We usually call in for same day service and get in quick. All ages are welcome. I refused to create a Yelp biz page for this place years ago as I didn't want to burden the owner with something he might not agree with, but it looks like it was embraced as they offer a check-in discount for military & college students ($5 off haircuts on Wednesday's). Highly recommended!

For two years now, I've had my hair cut at Max's Barber Parlor and I am shocked it's not more popular. Both Max and Stephen are excellent barbers, the perfect balance of personable and professional. Hair cuts are quick, affordable, and extremely well done, but ultimately I appreciate the vibe they've cultivated in the shop. Good music, good conversation, just a wholesome feeling overall. I know I'll look good when I leave Max's shop and I have a great time while I'm sitting in the chair. The selfish part of me doesn't want to let people know about Max's Barber Parlor (as I don't want to lose my chair!) but if you need a haircut in Center City, Max's is the only place you need!

I moved to Philly 3 months ago and randomly stumbled upon Maxamillions barbershop before heading down south for a wedding. So glad I did. You can tell you're going to be taken care of as soon as you walk in the door. Steve gave me a great cut resulting in compliments left and right. Not only was the haircut great, Steve's attention to detail and soft touch when shaving my beard into a mustache was greatly appreciated. I have extremely sensitive skin, and have never had a shave that left me without red bumps all over, until now. Today I went back for my second cut, and while I waited for my appointment with Steve, Max was on the phone trying to help an older customer of his get a better quote for some home repairs. No wonder these reviews are filled with people saying they're treated like family here. When I sat down, Steve remembered exactly how I got my haircut the first time without even asking. Once I got in the chair, it was like no time had passed since the last cut and we were chopping it up again. Literally and figuratively. The conversation was just as great as his work in the chair, and it was fun to discuss the value of a good haircut with him after he was done. Truly priceless. 10/10. THANK YOU!

I was once in a jam because my main barber was in a jam and he ended up moving. He referred me to Maxamillions on Chestnut. Max and the crew are very welcoming. Patrons are great! The conversations and networking is great too! It is a very diverse group with diverse backgrounds. It’s truly a great business and especially in the heart of Center City. Great haircut great service. Worth every dollar. If I moved anywhere in the United States, I would still come here for a hair cut.

I went to Max's shop to get a haircut before my vacation. I picked his shop due to the great reviews, and when I got there, those reviews definitely rang true. Max was extremely friendly and knew what he was doing. He gave me the best haircut I've ever had. Top that off with a fantastic beard trim, and I was set. Excellent barber, would absolutely go to again. Thanks Max!

I've been going to Max's barber shop for over a year now and it's one of the greatest experiences that I have ever had in a shop. It has a very traditional feel and the music is very laid back. The barbers are all very talented and they take pride in their work. If you need a quality cut in the Rittenhouse area, this is your shop. Also, you can get a shoe shine from a good guy who works in the store. One of the best in the city!
