I live two blocks from this barbershop, so I decided to give it a try after my longtime barber stopped working. The haircut itself was just average, but that’s not what put me off. After I finished paying the $40 for the service, the barber looked me straight in the eye and asked for a tip—loud enough for everyone to hear. I could’ve overlooked an average cut, especially given how convenient the location is, but I can’t support that kind of behavior. I get a haircut every two weeks, which would’ve meant $1,000+ a year in steady business for them. Instead, I’ll keep looking for a more professional place. Baffling behavior.

You’re absolutely right — no client should ever feel put on the spot regarding a tip. Tipping should always be optional and handled discreetly.<br>We do instruct our barbers not to pressure clients, but in this case we clearly fell short of that standard. I asked they guy to cut my hair as if whatever suits my face structure and he did an amazing job really satisfied, too bad I can’t probably visit again cuz i was on vacation but really appreciate the cut!

I come all the way from New Jersey to get a cut with Isaias, the only Dominican Barber. He styles your hair and his fades are the best, a complete professional.

Walked in and welcomed warmly. Got a haircut with Emiss and it’s clear he understood all types of hair. I ended up walking out with an excellent skin fade with awesome scissor work on the top!

If you want a $20 haircut go find a Great Clips. This haircut will cost you $40 which I think is very reasonable for Manhattan. This is actually more than just a haircut too. This is an authentic NYC barbershop experience. I had Jay as my barber today. He was very friendly and professional. I am not a local, but I will definitely come back when I am in town to see Jay again.

The service was excellent. My Barber got the details on what I was trying to get and he asked a few more questions along the way to make sure he was hitting everything I was asking for. He was done in about 25 minutes. Some Barbers like to hold hour long conversations with the people around them when they’re cutting, but not this shop. They get straight to it and hook you up really well. I highly recommend coming here for sure.

Just got back from Mexico City, and let me tell you—New York barbers hit different! I always come to Gotham needing a serious refresh, and they delivered beyond expectations. The attention to detail, the precision, and the overall vibe, you can tell they take real pride in their craft.

Whenever I stop by Gotham City Barber Shop I am welcomed with a friendly smile by Jay, the owner, and his colleagues. Today, I asked Jay for something new (mid drop skin fade) and I was so impressed!! Jay took his time and made me feel comfortable. I am very happy with my new look. Thank you Jay! 🙏🏻💯

I spotted this place during my walk to Central Park and visited it the next day with my son. It's not easy to find the right barber when you're traveling, so we were both very happy to get amazing haircuts from a friendly, highly experienced barber in the heart of Manhattan. The place is brand new and clean. If I lived here, this would definitely be my go-to place for a regular haircut. They're open seven days a week and also offer hot towel shaves. I highly recommend this barber if you're looking for a clean haircut at a reasonable price.
