As a recently graduated student. The one thing that stands out most is the commitment to continual learning from the staff, director, and all instructors. If you become a student and you do not put forth effort, it becomes very trying for you to learn. I have had tremendous support and each and every member supported my commitment to graduate get my license and open up my own shop. Here we are and I am mere weeks away from opening it! God bless, King David, Feliks, Freddy, Brown, Richard, and Benny. They all assured each day that I was stepping forward not stepping back. Andddd it’s not just about haircuts, they are all teaching you how to run the business, what to do and what not to do. $3 haircuts is a blessing to all, and I was cutting anywhere from 10-20 people a day and loved every minute of it. Hats off to Feliks it is not easy running this facility and during my time there I never felt concerned for my safety or health, even letting me use the employee bathroom when the student bathroom was crowded. It’s the little things that never go unnoticed. I can’t say enough, other than continue to do what you do because you are changing peoples lives to prosper and I sure for am one of them! God bless!

Owner's response

Thank you, Julian, for this heartfelt review and for recognizing our staff’s commitment to continual learning and safety. Congratulations on graduating, earning your license, and opening your own shop — we’re honored to have been part of your journey. Your shout-outs to King David, Feliks, Freddy, Brown, Richard, and Benny mean a lot, and we’re glad the training on both cutting and running a business served you well. Wishing you continued success, blessings, and many happy clients in your new shop.

We had a great experience with 5-Star Gabrielle.....he gave me the best haircut I have had in the past 5+ years !! Gabrielle is very nice, attentive to details, and has a great menu of options for cuts.....he also has some good experience already and big future dreams in the barber biz !! He does great fades and even trimmed my beard. Tight lines, great fades, square back, works weekends - very highly recommend and certainly worth any wait !!

Owner's response

Thanks so much for the five-star review, Chris — we’re thrilled Gabrielle gave you the best haircut in years. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words about his attention to detail, fades, beard work, and weekend availability. We really appreciate the recommendation and look forward to seeing you again.

On 19th of February I went to this location at 6:30pm to have my hair cut and barber who have not professional manners & very rude told me we are close and not taking any more customers and only person is waiting for hair cut and 3 other barbers are doing cutting and I asked you are not closing at 8:pm oh we are closing at 8 completely but now not able to take further customer which is they BS with me my advice not to go to this place and they don’t really need business.

Owner's response

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience at our location on February 19 — what you described is unacceptable and not how we expect our staff to treat customers. We apologize for the poor service and for giving the impression that we don’t value your business. We will investigate this incident, speak with the team, and reinforce professional customer service and closing procedures. Please accept our apologies and consider visiting us again so we can provide the proper service you should have received.

I have been going to this barber school for over 20 years, they do not disappoint. Every single barber has been courteous, respectful and they really do want you to feel that you look your best when you leave there. King David, Mr Brown, have all been wonderful. I want to shout out to every single barber, thank you for what you do because I love a fresh cut and I look forward to that when I come there. I appreciate each and every one of you!

I’m a regular here at the American Barber Institute, and for the past couple of months I have been getting my haircut by Charles. The first time happened to be by coincidence, but ever since he cut my hair I make it a point to sit in his chair. I’ve even waited for him while he was cutting someone else’s hair. He’s a master of his craft and I admire the respect and professional he has for barbering. He makes an effort to ensure everyone who sits in his chair receives a proper haircut. I know he’ll be graduating soon based off of the conversations I’ve had with him and I wish him the best of luck.

As a former student, I want to share my experience with this school and give advice to future students who are considering enrolling. I had both positive and negative experiences. Positive points: 1. There are plenty of clients — often there’s even a line outside — so you can gain a lot of hands-on experience. 2. In the afternoon class, there is a teacher named Benny. He is truly a good person and an excellent teacher. He always helps, genuinely tries to teach, and guides you through the process. 3. The schedule is flexible — you can choose morning, evening, or weekend classes. 4. The tuition is not too expensive, and the weekly payment plan makes it convenient. Negative points: 1. The other teachers are not bad people, but they don’t teach much. David will explain more if you ask him questions, but Mr. Brown barely teaches anything. I don’t want to disrespect anyone, but I think it’s time to bring in more teachers like Benny, because he has the enthusiasm and willingness to teach. 2. There are a lot of homeless clients — often unkempt, unhygienic, sometimes under the influence of alcohol. In the beginning, I had to cut some of these people’s hair until I realized that it’s better to refuse because I had several experiences where these clients were aggressive and could have caused harm. The school does not protect you in those situations. There were incidents where aggressive clients had conflicts with students, and instead of banning them (as the school’s own rules say they should), they allowed them to continue coming back. So, be very careful — if someone seems aggressive, smells strongly of alcohol, or is clearly under the influence, I recommend refusing to cut their hair. 3. This point can be seen as both positive and negative. Once I realized I wasn’t learning much from most of the teachers, I started watching tutorials on YouTube and other platforms. I would then try out the techniques in school, and that really helped me improve. But for students who rely only on the teachers, the end result is often disappointing because they don’t get the proper training they expect. I’ve changed my name here because I prefer to stay anonymous.

If you can’t explain and have idea how to get hair cut don’t go there, their instructors are lazy don’t wana show them, especially lower level guys, stay away from the instructor who has one hand, he’s worse in even attitude I was telling him his student is not blending hairs just to tell him to show him batter instead saying thanks or apologizing he told me u know he’s student and u don’t wana go bald headed today from here, i try four times and decided to tell you guys stayyy away unless u don’t even care, I am the guy who go to barber and tell him give me the cut you like and never find this myself cut is good or not while people tells me this thing he didn’t do right that thing looks bad but here all 4 times I can clearly see lines and layers, plz pay $20 more and stay away, I am not saying students are bad they are there to learn but instructors are worse, I met 3 of them only 1 know the work, on upper level I think his name is king and collects the money, but he will show little bit and leave coz he don’t wana do full hair cut not even to show his students…. Completely strange Check the picture both sides don’t even match and lower part has more hair, one side got batter blend other side thin layer of hairs to top and then he left big chunk this what I told to that disable instructor and he was like u know what u sign in for instead teaching his student

Kevin, my barber, was incredibly professional and skilled—it was clear he knows what he’s doing and takes great pride in his work. He listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered beyond my expectations. The attention to detail and precision were impressive, and I left feeling completely refreshed and confident. I highly recommend this place and especially Kevin. I’ll definitely be coming back for my next haircut!
