I came back for my second visit. Had an appointment today and showed up about 5 min early. Once I showed up they told me they were taking a break and said I would need to go to the other location an hour and a half later. Keep in mind they charge 25$ to cancle last min, do I get 25$??? Never going back dont hire people who dont want to work.

Very happy with my experience here! I was changing my style to have a longer beard and needed help with shaking and trimming it to look clean. The barber was super attentive and totally understood what I was going for. Very happy with the outcome!

I've been getting my hair cut by Theard for a while now, and I can honestly say—he's a master of his craft. More than just a barber, he's someone who genuinely cares about making people look and feel their best. Every time I leave his chair, I feel good. He's meticulous, personable, and takes pride in his work. Beyond the skills, it's the atmosphere he creates that stands out. Easy conversations, good vibes, and a real sense of connection—it's what sets him apart. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work with heart behind it.

I've been going to Carlos at Virile Barber Shop for about two years now, and I can honestly say the haircuts just keep getting better. He's consistently sharp with the details, listens to what you want, and is great at offering suggestions when needed. Carlos also does a great job of building real connections with his clients — conversations always feel easy, and it’s clear he genuinely cares about the people in his chair. The shop itself is a great spot too — calming atmosphere, super friendly staff, and just an all-around solid place to get a haircut. Highly recommend Carlos if you're looking for someone reliable, skilled, and easy to talk to.

Hands down the best barbershop in Jersey City. Always has a sick ass team working, and the vibes are always classy and cool. Been going to this shop since 2022 and i don’t think i’ll ever go anywhere else. Carlos is my main barber but i trust everyone with the blade that works at Virile. Classy, cool and quality. Shout out to Rich, Dave, Julian, Theard, Marc(monmouth) and Jesus (monmouth) for always making me feel like home when i stop in.

I'm writing this review in hopes it reaches Virile management. I was scheduled for a full haircut & beard with Theard today at the Jersey ave location for 12pm. Which I arrived at 12pm but wasn't able to find parking till about 12:15pm. Upon entering the barbershop at 12:20pm Theard immediately looks at me and says he wont be able to cut my beard and will only be able to do the haircut. Mind you I just drove by the barbershop at 12:10pm before finding my parking spot and saw someone sitting in the chair. This is my third haircut with theard, I had 2-45 min appts scheduled in advance one for today 7/13 and another for 8/3. I think the Virile atmosphere is very nice and the quality of service is amazing. I also understand the need to keep a tight schedule but if you were behind 10mins with your previous client and I'm 20mins late with a grace period of 15mins I don't think its fair to say you can't cut my beard because I'm late.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience — we genuinely appreciate your loyalty and your kind words about our atmosphere and service quality. We're truly sorry to hear that this visit didn’t meet your expectations.

Our goal is always to provide every client with the full, unrushed experience they’ve booked. While we do offer a 10-minute grace period, arriving 20 minutes late — especially for a service that requires a full 45-minute appointment — makes it difficult for us to stay on schedule and also provide the quality service without feeling rushed.. In this case, Theard made a judgment call to complete as much of the service as possible without compromising the experience, especially since you get a skin fade which can be more time consuming. By calling and letting us know you're running behind, it gives us the flexibility to try to accommodate you in the future.

That said, we recognize how frustrating it can be when circumstances like parking get in the way, and we’re sorry this led to a disappointing visit. We’ll be following up directly to see how we can make things right and hope to welcome you back soon.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Virile Barbershop has an incredible, welcoming vibe that makes you want to keep coming back. From the moment you walk in, you’re offered beer, whiskey, coffee, or water—such a great touch, especially after a long day. The barbers here are top-notch. Carlos took me from ratchet to immaculate, really listening to what I wanted and making sure every detail was perfect. The whole experience was relaxing, and I’m already looking forward to my next appointment. Heads-up: this place books up fast, so definitely schedule online in advance. Feeling great today—highly recommend!

Wasn’t going to leave a review but having a moment of frustration and still not confident enough to go out from the experience and it’s been two weeks. First the good: barber could not have been nicer. I made the choice to select what was clearly one of the newer barbers in training as labeled on the website, and he and the entire staff could not have been more nice. The tuff part: Was very particular about a part of my hair I did not want cut and made it very very clear not to cut it as I had been working hard to regrow it and I brought that up many times— to the point where i held the piece of hair and said “do not cut this at all” and he agreed. I looked on in deep shock as he, in the middle of the haircut, grabbed the entire part and cut it clean off making it worse than it’s ever been and all my progress regrowing it has been restarted. It was cut down to basically the scalp. To make matters worse in an effort to balance he replicated the problem on the the other side. It’s been hard blow to my confidence since then and I’ve never felt so insecure about my cut. I do not think this was malicious obviously but the blatant disregard for the single thing I very clearly asked not to do has led me to feel very frustrated. There’s a difference between making a mistake due to inexperience vs making a mistake due to genuinely not listening or disregarding directions All the other customers in there seemed to be regulars and I can tell by the reviews this is not the norm. My only advice to the establishment would be to emphasize to the earlier in their career barbers the importance of actually listening and echoing back and confirming how the cut should be done prior to the haircut, and to customers to be clear before, during and continuously throughout the cut.

Check it out: a legitimate and professional barber shop. After my long-time barber closed I visited Virile, hoping to find another skilled, reliable barber. I think I’ve found it at Virile in Jersey City. ✂️skilled 👊friendly 🎩professional (and sharp dressers) 🧼shampoo included
