Have to say that Herb's Barber Shop is a unique place. While meeting my daughter for my grandson's back to school hair cut me and my daughter met SHAWN FORD who was there getting his hair cut. My little Kai seen me enter was hollering grandma everyone stop and all eyes was on me. My boys were so handsome and neat ready for school now.

I love this place… was my favorite spot in the city to get a haircut. All barbers on duty are super cool, warm and friendly. Good conversation and atmosphere. Now that I have locs I plan on getting touched up by the Loctician that works there also.

Owner's response

Thank you for being a great client and supporting us

I have been getting my hair cut there every since I was a little boy. Always a positive atmosphere. Can't say enough good things about Herb and his shop. Always has skillful barbers. Never had a complaint.

Definitely a great place for young men to enjoy a great haircut and discuss many important or positive subjects. Often see great men there who can be role models for the community. Also a great investment. If waiting make sure to check out the huge message or excerpt on the wall called Last Testament & Will to Humanity. Along with all the great black history around the shop.

Owner's response

Thank you for continuing to be a part of our legacy and service to our community ❤

Simply put Herb Harrington is a Master Barber. Ive been fortunate for over 35 years to have been a customer. Very friendly atmosphere where anything from politics to marriage is open for discussion. Don't forget about thr 2nd chair.

My stylist was Phyllis the Lock specialist. You make appointments with her and end up waiting 1-2 hours anyway. The irony is that I came in and introduced myself and sat down, then my stylist asked if I had even made an appointment and I said yes I spoke with you a week ago for 2:00pm today (that day) the exact time it was when sat down. It looked like she was in the middle or just getting started another persons hair, but I understand I guess people forget sometimes. We're all human. I got a good hair do (DreadLocks) especially considering the price...I even gave a $20 tip. She was nice enough in person, but every time I tried to make an appointment I'd get the feeling that my stylist does't value me as a paying/tipping customer. It was all attitude. She might as well have said "what the hell do you want, nah I ain't doing yo hair...that's too bad go find another stylist." Well I figured she felt "Why should I care about good customer service/being polite ? I have enough clients (friends and familty) to get by. Why should loosing you be of any importance to me?" But good customer service is something I would pay extra just for. I'm all for supporting community businesses that's why I hated writing this review but we've got to do better than this. There's another community shop I like going to called Nu-Beginnings near Corcoran and Menard. They have a good cultural vibe and great customer service. You'll really feel valued there, it will feel like you're on an episode of cheers.
