After moving from the East Coast to Seattle, I was worried about finding a barber I could trust again. In New York City I had the same barber for nearly six years. Jake has been that person for me here. In the eight years I have lived in Seattle, he has been my barber the entire time. His cuts are precise, consistent, and always excellent. I even drive about 6.5 miles from Capitol Hill to Rudy’s in Phinney Ridge because he is that good. Great shop, great atmosphere, and a true professional. Highly recommend Jake.

Owner's response

We love you Richard and appreciate you. Jake is the best and I’m so happy you are coming all the to Phinney to see him… you’re always a pleasure

Edit: they reached out and refunded the bad cut (which they didn’t have to do, but I appreciate it). I’ll be booking with specific stylists from now on. Most of the time I’ve had a great experience here, friendly and skilled staff. Today I went in for a walk in since I didn’t know when I would have time for a cut today, usually I make an appointment ahead of time. I was paired with Jaycee and left feeling disappointed. First I described my hair and they said “like a mullet?” I do not have nor did I describe a mullet. I have straight, short hair and there was a lot of tugging with hands, combs, clippers and shears. The hair was blended poorly, random sections in the top were an inch longer than the rest, my part was ruined. I felt I shouldn’t have tipped, but I understand tips are a part of people’s livelihood. When they took the cape off all of my hair was dumped into my lap. I went home and fixed it. They shouldn’t be cutting people’s hair until they are skilled enough to complete a cut without these major issues.

Owner's response

Hi Haley, I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your service. I will be reaching out to you, so we can discuss this further.

Not sure what’s happened, but this Rudy (Phinney Ridge) has sadly, consistently, and continuously slid into predictable disappointment over the years… from reduced staff, dirty floors, to appointment mixups, there’s just a general lack of care. It used to be good, it no longer is. Given its price per haircut it should be much better and its customers especially the repeat ones deserve better. There are still some great barbers there, makes me feel bad for leaving this review - but I won’t be going back.

Got another great haircut from Alicia at Rudy's on Phinney. She listens to what I want, makes suggestions and delivers. Fast, efficient and friendly.

Owner's response

Alicia is awesome and we are so thrilled you enjoyed your experience! Thanks for taking time to give such a nice review.

Some good cuts, some bad. Always unpredictable, because you never get the same barber due to high turnover. Pretty typical of multiple Rudy’s locations.

Owner's response

Thanks for the feedback—we really appreciate you taking the time to share it. Just wanted to mention that most of our crew here has actually been with this location for 10+ years, so even if you end up with someone different now and then, it’s usually our same long‑time team.
We’re always working to make every cut a good one, and your input truly helps. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Betty is fantastic... She took the raw clay of my trainwreck hair and turned it to something I could bring home to my wife. Process for appointment was simple, check in was smooth and the cut was superb.

Owner's response

Thanks John! I will pass this on to Betty! Glad you enjoyed your haircut!

I don't rate many things low, but I went here for a trim and they took 10 inches off my hair. It was not a well done job, and I miss my old length! A trim and 10 inches is a very large difference.

Owner's response

Hi there, this is quite an unusual occurrence, that IS a lot to take off when asking for a trim. In fact I’ve never seen a stylist do such thing! Maybe an ich or two more than asked, but a 10 whole inches? Could you email me and give me a bit of details so I can get to the bottom of this. We have your last visit on September 27th, so I’m assuming you wouldn’t be writing a review 3 months later.
Thanks! Over priced and poor quality. $55 for a 30 min cut that feels rushed and sloppy. If you show up even 1 min late they will shame you. Been here a couple times now and same experience each time. I won’t be returning again.

Owner's response

Hi Everett, sorry you found your service unsatisfactory. I will let the stylist know you found her haircut to be of poor quality and overpriced.

Kat was amazing all the way around! I recently lost my long time stylist and was nervous about trying someone new. Kat was attentive; listened to my needs & checked in frequently with me along the way. Kat made me feel super comfortable. And it didn't hurt that Kat was friendly & easy to talk to. And I got a great cut @ the end of it all. Will definitely be going back to see Kat again.

Owner's response

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice review. I will let Kat know! She is indeed fantastic and we’re happy that you had such a great experience.

I’ve gotten many haircuts at different Rudy’s locations over the years, and it’s always been a good experience. I made a bad judgment call when I was in fourth grade and got a pixie cut, but the haircut itself was good and the barber did a good job. Don’t know the relevance of that, but whatever. The barbers are always very nice and know how to have a conversation which is always good. Having a barber that doesn’t know how to socialize with the customer and doesn’t have good conversational skills always makes it awkward. I got a haircut on Tuesday and the lady was very nice. She was quirky, but was nice to me and held a good conversation and was funny. I’ve always loved going to Rudy’s because of the atmosphere and I always felt welcome there. Something I do love about it is the walls where the mirrors are – they have so many random pictures and magazine clippings that are always really fun to look at when I’m getting my haircut, and they have them at all of the locations and so it’s always fun to see the variations. oh and I should probably mention that the haircuts are very good and I can always rely on the barbers to give me the cut I want. I can’t say that about a lot of places lol. I will always highly recommend Rudy’s if you’re looking for a quality haircut, I must admit the cuts are not super duper inexpensive, but they are quality and definitely not the most expensive you’ll find around Seattle. Rudy’s will always be a favorite of mine. Oh! Also, every location’s interior is so cool! I recommend the Downtown Ballard location - they have an old water fountain with plants growing out of it and cool bricks that are part of the original old building (if i’m remembering all of that correctly)! Booking is so easy and every establishment is inclusive (they have pride flags up- that’s how I know lol) and welcoming. Overall highly recommend if you’re looking for a quality haircut and a good experience!
