I sought color services at this establishment with clear expectations that left me feeling more like an experiment than a valued client. PRIOR to committing to services, be sure to ask your stylist for their policies and procedures in writing, including corrective measures he/she offers and refund policies. In addition, document your expectations clearly. If your service requires the stylist to communicate with you about the benefits and risks associated and/or requires proper lighting to discuss color options, etc., hold the stylist accountable and DO NOT commit to any services until a proper consultation has been performed. I made that mistake. I even gave grace after the stylist missed a three week window period to perform such. Instead, the stylist waited until the night before and did so via text- never explaining the risks or contributing factors that could affect the end result nor stated the shade of color was unachievable (until after my initial complaint to her). That was my red flag to disengage. However, I didn't think I'd have to practice discernment in this situation and committed to the services. Learn from me and don't do that. Acting in good faith is considered free will, AKA: voluntary action, and holds you solely accountable. PRIOR to paying for services (my mistake), giving a tip (regardless if you respect the stylist's time/livelihood- my mistake), and/or before giving any sort of compliment out of the kindness of your appeasing heart (I made this mistake as well), be sure to vocalize any/all complaints to the stylist PRIOR to leaving the salon. Not doing so implies that you agree to the terms of service and confirms your satisfaction of the end result. Attempting to resolve this matter nearly ten times prior to filing a higher complaint, knowing it could be denied, does not equate to the pursuit of free services nor was that ever the case- correspondence clearly stated additional services outside of corrective measures would be paid for by me per my own statement. I just wanted to like my hair. KNOW YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS. Stylists are covered under the "no money back guarantee." Therefore, once you commit to AND pay for the service, the stylist is not accountable for anything that wasn't said, done, etc., including his/her failure to resolve unless damage was caused during the service. The only thing I did wrong was trust this stylist's word. I paid for the services, because I thought not doing so would be considered theft- and by law, it absolutely is. I suppose I should have listened when she told me to find a stylist in a different town, because she already knew she wasn't going to resolve anything. This review isn't against the stylist's character or wellbeing, but rather based on my direct experience with the stylist while in her care at this salon as a prior, paying client. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I am unable to recommend anyone to this business for hair services. However, I'm grateful the stylist provided an opportunity for me to gain additional legal knowledge and pave the way for others so they, too, can practice discernment in the name of the law prior to engaging. The more you know, the more you can protect yourself. Stay vigilant. **Say what you want. Think what you will. The outcome of my claim does not invalidate my experience with the stylist at this salon. I was unable to prove that I was owed corrective measures or reimbursement of any kind within a legal standpoint, because I paid in full, gave a compliment, and didn't complain in time- nothing more. It also does not prevent others from knowing their rights before committing to services going forward. It does, perhaps, potentially imply stylists know what they don't have to take accountability for if the client doesn't know his/her rights prior to services being rendered. Compliments are cheap. Time is expensive. I learned my lesson which has only given me more insight on how to protect myself and those I care about.**

If you’re looking for a stylist who truly knows her craft, I can’t recommend mine enough. Katie spent much of her career working in the trend-forward salons of San Diego, and it shows in her skill and eye for what’s current. Whether you want effortless beachy balayage, fire-engine red, or anything in between, she absolutely nails it every time. Her cuts are always modern, flattering, and up-to-date with the latest trends. On top of that, she’s incredibly laid back and easy to be around, which makes the whole experience relaxed and fun instead of rushed or stressful. In a time when salon prices can be all over the place, her services are also very affordable for the level of talent and professionalism she brings. I’ve been nothing but happy every single visit and always leave feeling amazing. Highly recommend if you’re looking for someone skilled, current, and genuinely great to work with. ✨

My 4 year old grandson had an amazing haircut and experience with Jordan. Jordan was patient and great with Dean who had a “not so great “ experience with his last haircut at a different location. They even had the Mario movie on which was a great distraction. Dean laughed, made funny faces and generally enjoyed getting his haircut by Jordan. Thanks Jordan for making Dean smile and making him not afraid to get his haircut again. We will be back!!

The Proper Salon and Barber has a welcoming vintage vibe. All of the stylists are very friendly, listen to your wants and will have you walking out of there with confidence. Stay Gold tattooing is located inside the barber shop. Flip is an experienced artist who takes your ideas and turns them into a master piece. Not only is his work great but he’s also a wonderful conversationist. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and I love my new ink.

After almost 3 years of searching for someone to cut my hair, I have finally found my permanent salon and my stylist. I had my first haircut with Brie smith and I loved it. Ever since then she been doing my hair. She does a great job. I will still continue going with her. 🥰

My whole family love going to Brie. I recently cut my hair into a bob and she made sure there wasn't a hair out of place. My husband loves that she cuts his curly hair really well, which is hard to find in the area. She also is wonderful with children. I'm so glad we found her!

I always get my hair cut by Brie. We’ve tried many different styles and she’s always been consistently great! She makes sure she understands what I want, and always works until I feel good about the cut. She’s flexible, communicative, and I’m always pleased with the results. Highly recommend!

I absolutely love Brianna Smitg (aka Brie). I have straight hair and my kids have curly hair. They get it from dad. My daughter had the hardest time taking care of her hair and I did my best. We met Brie when she worked at a different salon and followed her to the Proper. She not only takes the time to teach my daughter but me as well. My kids wont let anyone else touch their hair for about four years now!

I've worked with Brie Smith for at least 2 years now, she's a fantastic colorist and stylist. She's gotten to know me, which goes a long way towards a great cut. I've already recommended her to several friends and colleagues and they agree! Book with Brie today, you won't regret it!

Had the best highlight I’ve had in probably a decade by Breanna today! She is a meticulous artist. I’m so happy I branches out and tried a new salon and stylist based on the reviews.
