Cut and Shave Barbershop - Old Town North Alexandria Over the past 14 years I’ve had only intermittent success in finding a barbershop that I could rely upon. I’m not a purist – mostly I’m just looking for a standard haircut at a reasonable price. I found what I was looking for when I visited the Old Town North Cut and Shave Barbershop. This shop is one of three Cut and Shave locations and is in that part of Old Town that features a great Sheraton Suites hotel, Trader Joe’s, Hank’s Oyster Bar, and Harris Teater. (The other Alexandria shops are at the Braddock Road Metro station and on Eisenhower Avenue). For my first visit I had an appointment, but during the time I was waiting I saw walk-in customers, so I think both walk-ins and appointments are accommodated. Note that there’s a check-in tablet near the cash register, and it’s important to sign in upon arrival. I think that way walk-ins and reservation customers all can be accommodated. My barber, Queen, did a great job of listening to my concerns, and getting feedback while she worked. Queen clearly knew what she was doing, and did a fine job cutting my hair. This was a Men’s Scissors Cut ($35 plus tip), and Queen matched the style I was looking for. For me, it takes a while to trust a barber. As this was my first visit, there’s no final judgment here, just an endorsement based on a good initial impression. The plus here is if I do get to where I can fully trust Queen, I’ll be able to get my beard trimmed as well as my hair cut. The shop in fact has a wide range of services, better than most shops that I’ve been to. Thus far, in the 14 years I’ve lived in Old Town, I have yet to find a barber who can trim my beard, so it would be great if that could happen at Cut and Shave.

I got an amazing haircut from Queen yesterday. She was friendly, professional and the results were great. Happy Holidays!

I waited for 30 minutes for a beard trim, even reserved a space. Every 15 minutes after that another person came tone saying “please wait 5-10 minutes and we will have someone for you” By the first time this happened I wasn’t trusting this location to take care of my beard, but I was still willing to try them out. After three times of this happening, I decided to leave. Went to Scissors and Scotch (adding another 35 minutes to my one way drive) and had an amazing experience.

One of the worst haircuts I have ever had. Explained what I wanted to my barber Amy and right away she went and did exactly the opposite of what I asked for. I stopped her and asked her if she was using a size 1 like requested and she started yelling at me saying I asked for skin. After this, I let her finish, the picture is when she spun me around and said she was finished. When I began to explain to her that the two sides of my head were not equal she began to try to convince me that is how it was supposed to look. By far the worst experience I have had at a barber, do not recommend Amy.

My hairstyle hasn't changed in 10+ years, so I know how to communicate how I want it cut. Simone did an amazing job listening to my directions and internalizing my example photos. I've finally found my go-to barbershop in the DMV.

Don did a great job! I recently moved to Virginia from California and was fearing to have to find a New barber, but Don did a great job! And the price was great as well. He’s not too communicative but I understand everyone has their own personality, it don’t take away from the fact that he cuts hair well!

I have been getting my hair cut here since I moved to Alexandria 3 years ago and love it. The shop is always super clean and the staff is friendly. I always have my haircut by Queen now and she is the best! Remembers how I like my hair cut and is super polite.

What’s the point of them even asking what I want? Do these people just know one haircut and give that to all their customers? So upsetting. Hope these next 6 months go by fast so I don’t have to look like a 5 year old kid with a homemade buzzcut for long… Here’s the photo I showed them, and what I walked out with. Genuinely the worst haircut of my life.

I'm so happy to find this place! LE is a wiz with scissors. At first she used clippers and I thought, hmmm that's how you fade properly....but boy when she started cutting the top hair with scissors. Her precision, the fade immaculate. She checked her cut twice ... and the result.."I Love it "..and the really good price of $22 a cut is the icing on the cake. it took me 32month to find a home for my haircuts. Btw, this price included a hot towel and a new blade for the knive. Yes they take covid serious.
