Have been looking for someone to cut my son's hair. My son is Autistic and he gave Jay a bit of a hard time. But Jay was very patient and understanding with him. We found our new permanent baber.

Honestly, walking into the shop we felt welcome & the vibe is so peaceful. As a woman I felt so comfortable for the first time coming into a barber shop with men. The gentle men are very professional & the music choices are very family friendly. We really enjoyed the experience & will be returning from now on. I highly recommend coming here you won't regret it.

This was more than a haircut, best experience ever, Jelani is very knowledgeable not just in his job, life experience, culture, history, I had the best conversation ever with him, and my hair looks amazing… I drove every Friday from Pharr,Texas to San Antonio for Dr. Appointment…. And definitely I find the best place ever for my hair and a great conversation….

I've been bringing my two sons to Kings Barbershop in San Antonio ever since we moved here three years ago, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. From day one, the barbers have been professional, friendly, and consistently deliver top-notch haircuts. Jelani the owner makes sure the vibe is welcoming, clean, and family-friendly. Highly recommended!

Have been several times for beard details. Past few times have been forced to wait unacceptable amount of time after scheduled appointment. Most recently scheduled an 11:45am. Came in at 11:40am and literally no one in any chairs. Fellow barbers informed Jelani I was there. Though I could hear him in the back on the phone, he never came up front within a reasonable time and I decided to leave after waiting 25 minutes as I needed to be at the airport. Very disappointing. Due to lack of respect and communication, I will not be returning.

My apologies, James I was working in one of the suites in the back doing a hair restoration service. Typically there is another team member in front but they stepped out unknowingly. I truly apologize for your experience and inconvenience.

I had been going to Kings Barber and Beauty and seeing Jelani Johnson for about a year and a half with no issues—until my last visit on December 24. I booked my appointment online through Booksy and arrived on time, but ended up waiting for two hours while he took other clients ahead of us. He apologized multiple times and said he was behind, eventually offering us a free cut. When he finally got to my son, he did the haircut, and despite the long wait and inconvenience, I still gave him a $30 tip out of respect for the relationship we’d built over the past year and a half. To my surprise, when I went to rebook, I discovered that he had blocked me. I’m not sure what type of pettiness this is, but it’s incredibly unprofessional—especially after so much time and loyalty. I would not recommend him for children, or anyone who values consistency and professionalism. I don’t like bringing my kids around someone who randomly switches up like that. It’s unsettling and raises concerns about his mindset and reliability. Zero stars. Highly do not recommend Jelani Johnson.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your support and patronage that you have shown myself and the others Barbers within the establishment for the last couple of years because we all have had the opportunity to receive a booking for your son. It’s also good to know that there were no issues with the shop up until the rush on Christmas Eve, which is the busiest holiday of the year. To be more knowledgeable of the situation and to take personal accountability I reviewed my personal booking data and I would like to express that I personally completed only two bookings for your son, within the last few years. It was great to see you wanted to return and you scheduled with me again on Jan 13, 2025 and you cancelled that appointment. I will strongly contest that myself and the team took great pride in being patient and professional while navigating the complexities of serving children and striving to achieve the best results. One of the biggest opportunities in business is being super efficient in a real time environment, and operating in real time, always looking for the best resolution and results when providing service to your son has always been priority. I apologize for being super swamped on Christmas Eve once again it is one of our busiest holidays of the year and after serving your son as well as other children and clients after the new year, I had to access my schedule and growth as a Shop Owner / Barber. My team and I always discuss work load management, service availability, as well as comfort level when providing service to our clients, especially children. <br><br>You were directly impacted by my schedule being booked to capacity therefore it was time for me to collaborate with the Barbers that I train and mentor to solely take on clients as they advance and grow in skill set. There are the gentleman that are familiar with servicing your son and most importantly that is best for the Kiddos and that was best for him as well. Pairing him with someone that he knows to put him at ease, as well as provide the requested services is my priority as an owner. Personally conveying that to you as the best course of action would have been very easy to convey to you in person, Innever saw an issue with our communication. I truly believe in my knowledge and skills and I am very confident because I truly trust the gifts that God has given me. When your son began coming to Kings I personally was ever so patient with him and shadowed the team members training them to ensure that he was taken care of, I understand the hurt behind not being able to get in my chair. It is a blessing to have the option to have our team be of service when needed and I take great pride in our team being able to cut to standard as well. <br><br>In regard to my mindset and my ability to be around children that was very hurtful. I am a proud father of four beautiful children that I love very much. Honoring my commitment to the Lord to be a good steward of his Blessings and the children are one of the main reasons that I ensure that the location is family friendly. I take pride in being a role model and doing things that are pleasing in his sight and glorifies him. <br><br>Blessings to you and your family Mrs. Fox my sincere apologies again.

I drove my autistic niece to this business because it says walk-ins. We had to park in the back and when I went upstairs with my niece they looked at her and looked at me. There was one customer in a chair and at least three other people visually not doing anything. When I talked about the walk-ins they seemed like they knew what I was talking about and said everything was appointment only. There was only one person in a chair. And my niece probably only needed maybe a 10 minute haircut. I'm also trying to educate her on black owned businesses which I believed this was. Like most of the ones that I've visited from the HEB pamphlet with her and her brother. Since she is isolated to home and school because her family doesn't treat her like a normal person. We drove 25 miles for walk in there wasn't available after calling many other ones that I knew of that all said that they can't handle short African American hair. There was less than cold customer service. Very disappointing. My niece rips her hair out because of her autism and I just wanted to do something nice for her since her family doesn't do it.

VIBE: 10/10. Kings was a welcoming atmosphere the second I walked through the door. I was immediately greeted, the shop was clean, there was plenty of seating, and good music playing in the background. It was very diversified. There were kids, multiple ethnicities, and both male & female customers. QUALITY: 10/10. I've visited several barbershops in San Antonio and this is by far the best. If you're looking for a clean, crispy cut, this is where it's at. COST: 10/10. Prices were transparent and less expensive than other places. They also accept credit.
