I had locs for 15 years, but had to cut them during the pandemic because i couldn't maintain them myself. It was always a goal of mine to get my locs back. Melat got me in just before my wedding, and scheduled me with the barber she works with to get me looking my best and most authentic. I'm so grateful for how much she helped me, and for the amazing job she did with my locs.

By far one of the best experiences I’ve had with a stylist. Scheduled me the next day, took the time to understand my goal, gave me options and educated me on how to reach my goal. Go see her! She’s really informative and takes the time to really cater your needs. Doesn’t over charge you for simple things and will schedule you for your next visit which I absolutely love. Really loved working with her, and I would highly recommend for any style you want to go with.

Gave her a $200 deposit and moved away. Told her to keep it for when I came back to get work done. She squeezed me in 7/7/24 and did some twists for me. Horrible job. Had to “fix it” 4 times before I was told she wouldn’t accept my deposit as payment and charged me an additional $350 then I finally left. They were coming out already by the time I left the salon and were uneven, raggedy, and embarrassing. Asked for a refund and she refused. Posting this as a buyer beware for future prospective clients. Will be going to the better business bureau after this if I don’t get the refund settled privately this week.

If I could rate lower I would. she was very unprofessional, when i showed up for my appointment she didn’t even bother finishing with previous customer before sitting me down, then kept switching back and forth between me and other customers for an hour. I asked her for comb coil starter locs and she barely started and couldn’t get through my 4c hair then she convinced me to do instant locs so she could jack up the price she kept jacking up the price over and over. And eventually settled on charging me $1200 for a very poor job at instant locs. She used the crochet hook on my hair while it was dry causing breakage and pain. And told me it only works with dry hair. She was very lazy taking the easiest and fastest way to finish instead of doing a good job. I would not recommend coming here to get your hair done .she will try to scam you

Super unprofessional. Came 30 minutes late to every appointment past the first one. The last appointment we had, again 30 minutes late. I text her to see when she'd be on her way and she's like "I'm sick. Won't make it." Gets hair done well enough and in quick time; more affordable than other places in Portland but the lack of reliability and professionalism made me pay 100 dollars more to get my hair done elsewhere. She's just disrespectful of your time and your business. I would not recommend.

Melat is the best. she does my daughters braids and has a new surprise every week for us. she knows so many kinds of braids and is such a sweetheart. super friendly, low prices and a great location in Hollywood. Highly recommended!
