I’ve been coming to see Eddie for years now. Not only is he my go to barber, but also a friend. This place reflects the work that he’s put into his craft as well as the team. Can’t recommend enough.

I came in with a clear reference photo and a specific modern style in mind (a low taper modern mullet). Unfortunately, the end result looked very different from what I asked for — the fade sat much higher than the reference and the overall shape wasn’t close to the photo. When I brought up my concerns, the response felt defensive rather than collaborative. I was also told afterward that this hairstyle “wasn’t taught in school,” and that it may not be possible with my hair type. That’s something that should have been communicated before or during the cut, not as an explanation after I expressed dissatisfaction. I was offered a fix within a week, but realistically this haircut needs more time to grow out before it can be properly corrected (mainly blending and refining the fade). Overall, I left disappointed — not just with the result, but with the lack of accountability and communication. If you’re looking for a modern hairstyle and a stylist who can either execute it or clearly communicate limitations up front, I wouldn’t recommend this place. For reference I attached the reference photo and before/after photos.

I've gotten my hair cut here for years and I've always had a wonderful experience! I normally get my haircuts with Meghan and she's helped me with short hair, growing out, and then long hair! All the other barbers are extremely friendly too!

Great Barbershop in downtown Portland! Lil Joe 🤏 is an awesome barber who can talk more than me 😅😅😅 Solid haircutting skills!

Super kickass barbershop! I have been going to Megan for 9 years and quite literally every haircut I get someone gives me a compliment or asks where I go. The vibe is great, scheduling is easy, and it’s dope supporting a locally owned barbershop ran by a husband a wife team. The owners Megan and Eddie are awesome, highly recommend.

Well it started off great but when Kai got started things quickly took a turn for the worst. I asked him to cut my hair with a fade and taper on my sides and back. He didn’t do any of it. Then his first go around he messed up the back of my head having left more length on the back than the front. Then when I went back to get it fixed he did fix it but then when I got home he messed up again with my sides. I found out no taper on my back or either of my sides. I will show you the reference photo I showed him, this reference is the haircut I got in the summer. The lady who cut my hair never cut my hair before this. She did a great job. Kai said it was his first time cutting my hair but he messed up three different times. Now I have a haircut I hate. Even with him going and trying to fix it. I wasn’t too rude to him, because he was polite. But I do not recommend Kai or Rooks Barber shop due to this bad experience. I’ve been going there for years but one bad time can mess it up forever. I couldn't be happier about the service from Megan at Rooks. I went in a little nervous, as I've rarely had good experiences when trying to get a more masculine hair cut as I tend to be perceived as female. And I wanted to try something I've never done before, having figured out that the search terms "man bun undercut fade" give results that match what I want, and if possible I wanted some sort of design cut into the fade. Megan put me at ease and was really wonderful to work with. She understood what I was going for, helped me figure out how high up to go, started conservative and then got my input on whether or not to go higher, and then did a great design in the fade. It looks and feels fantastic, is exactly what I hoped for, and I wish I could come back regularly but I live in San Francisco.

I recently moved closer to downtown and have been trying to find a decent barber. I saw Eddie 10/24/18 and he did an amazing job! I am very particular about how my hair is styled and cut due to having thick coarse hair. Eddie took his time with cutting my hair. He made sure that I was satisfied with what I was receiving. I noticed that he probably goes above and beyond with most of his customers as the guy before me asked for changes at the end of his cut and Eddie was glad to accommodate and even said that he could text you the cut/style so that you have it for future reference. Since moving and my old barber leaving their shop, I've struggled to find a good replacement. Honestly, I will definitely come back because I enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and vibe. Update 1/24/19 - been here a couple more times and still stand by the great atmosphere and barbers. Definitely worth the time and money to pay a visit to this shop.
