I've been going here for 7 years. First with Hunter who was great, providing excellent cuts and and fun environment. After moving away for a while and now returning, Andres is the way to go. He also provides a great cut, is so welcoming and always offers great food recommendations. The vibe at O&F is welcoming and chill.

Truth be told. I am extremely picky about who my barber is. Previously I had the same barber for maybe 5+ years. Since coming to the city, i’ve always switched around but never quite found someone as consistent & truly knows how to cut hair and set the foundations right. Andres Cardenas was recommended to me by a friend of mine. Since going to him a few months ago, I am happy that i found a reliable barber that is local & does a good job, visit after visit. If you are very intentional with your hair. Book Andres, he’s honestly 10/10

One of the owners, Shawn Dixon, has a consistent history of engaging with customer feedback in an aggressive and dismissive way rather than addressing concerns professionally. Customers who leave honest reviews are met with hostility instead of accountability. Booked an appointment at the Greenpoint location. Arrived with shoulder length hair, asked for hair to still cover ears with a small fade on the sides. Provided references and detailed what was wanted from each reference picture, left with a horrible faux hawk. See images which clearly show references do not match end result. I suggest reading the owner’s public responses to reviews before booking. They offer an unfiltered look at how customers are treated when something goes wrong.
Owner's response
Dear readers -- we take client feedback extremely seriously. This is written by a person who seems unwell and has never received services at this location. You can read the reviews she is spamming all of our pages with (and having friends spam) if you click on her profile. Until yesterday, she had a review up with her own hairstyist (not with us) in which she stated she'd had her own hairstylist arrested as a result of a phsyical altercation they had at a hair appointment. She took that review down once I pointed it out. We wish you well Jassmin and hope you get the help you need. We're rooting for you!

I’m in NY 2-4 times a year and will never skip a chance to get my hair chopped by Chris M. Never a bad conversation!
Owner's response

Have gone to Bex ever since moving to Queens 2 years ago and the experience is incredible every time I get a cut. They’re an expert barber and have a natural skill of listening and bringing the style I want to life. High recommend them and O&F

Came in for a haircut with Bex. I asked for 1 1/4 off the top and a 1 on the sides to give my style a trim, nothing too much. Post-cut review, my sides weren’t blended properly and I can clearly see a distinct area where the cut goes from a 0.5 to a 1. On the top, I got more than an inch cut off (it was maybe 1.5 or 2). I definitely wish I was asked or something “hey, can I cut a bit more to blend it here? What do you prefer?” Also, during the cut, mid conversation on a talk about movies, she completely stopped to scroll on her phone to look up something that we were talking about AND THEN stood there and talked about it for about 5-6 minutes. I definitely wish I picked another barber.
Owner's response
Hi Faizal,

I’m very sorry to hear you didn’t leave with the result you wanted. That’s never the experience we want for our clients. Since you called your barber out by name, I just want to say, without reservation, Bex is a skilled professional and a valued member of our team; we trust their work and the care they bring to every service. That said, haircuts can be subjective, and you didn’t get what you wanted and I sincerely regret that. And I apologize that Bex took 1.5 inches instead of 1.25 off the top. That’s on us.

On timing: our booking records show you were not only seated early, but you also checked out early, despite the alleged 5–6-minute pause Bex took to show genuine interest in your conversation. Sorry they did that, but, again, given that you were out of the chair early, that’s almost certainly an exaggeration on the length of the pause.

Nonetheless, we advertise on our website (front page) that this isn't a chop shop. It’s a communal space where we want to talk to our neighbors while giving people a great cut and also running on time. So I'd say the fact that you got in and out ahead of schedule warrants more than just a one-star review. But I get it. We all get a little cranky after things don't go exactly as we wanted, and it feels good to take it out on the keyboard.

I just wish you’d shared your feedback directly with your barber or me instead of naming them in a review for their boss and the public to read without any opportunity to correct or even address your complaints. Small businesses welcome direct feedback. In fact, I leave my personal contact at the checkout under a sign that says “contact the owner” for situations like this one. Unlike big corporations, we can address issues immediately and implement changes quickly, which makes us better!

For your sake, I hope you never have to work in public service where you are met with the scrutiny of 60 people a week (as Bex does), all of whom have different personalities, frustrations, and particular subjective styles. If you do, I promise you'll wish you were able to do that with the same grace, professionalism, and good attitude that Bex does day in and day out.

If you’re open to it, we’d still like the chance to make this right. I can always be reached at shawn@otisandfinn.com.

Shawn

Andres Cardenas is awesome. My go-to barber. Chill, fun to talk to, and super friendly. He’s also damn good at cutting hair. Will keep coming back.

Andres gave me a GREAT haircut—looked exactly like the picture I showed him. He really listened and nailed the style I was going for. I couldn’t recommend this place more if you’re looking for a barber in LIC. Super professional, chill vibe, and the attention to detail was on point.

Andreas seriously gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had. He’s consistent, quick, and treats every cut like it’s for a wedding or something big. He really cares about making you look your best. Highly recommend!
