I’ve been shopping around, going to a different barber shop every time I get my hair cut since I moved to the city 2 years ago. This is the first time I’ve LOVED my cut. As soon as I saw the final result I thought, I’ve found my barber. Thank you to Kirk for fixing my commitment issues. I will definitely be back.

Michelle Cuautle delivered the best haircut I’ve had in years. Rarely do you show a barber a photograph and get the exact same haircut you’re looking for. She nailed it. I’d recommend her a thousand times over… as long as I can still get an appointment.

I LOVE Otis & Finn!! I’ve been seeing Dot Katsias for about a year now and I absolutely adore her! She always cuts my hair right and makes me leave with a big smile. Great conversations, consistently great cuts, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere! I don’t see myself going anywhere else.

Ryan - this is such a nice review. Thank you for taking a moment to leave this feedback. Our barbers appreciate it. And we agree - love Dot! Look forward to seeing you soon!

The barbershop is always clean, welcoming, and has a great atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Everyone there is friendly and professional, and you can tell they really care about their customers. Ross is hands down the best barber I’ve ever had — he takes his time, pays attention to detail, and consistently delivers the cleanest fades I’ve gotten anywhere. I always leave feeling fresh and taken care of. Highly recommend stopping by. Thanks to Ross and the Otis & Finn Team

Kevin - thanks so much for taking the time to leave a nice note. It means a lot to us to hear that we are making our clients happy. That's what the job is all about. Look forward to seeing you next time!

Avoid any of these locations. The owner, Shawn Dixon, has a documented pattern of responding to customer reviews in a hostile and unprofessional manner, including making accusations and attempting to publicly shame patrons for sharing their experiences. Booked an appointment at the Greenpoint location. Arrived with shoulder length hair, asked for hair to still cover ears with a small fade on the sides. Provided references and detailed what was wanted from each reference picture, left with a horrible faux hawk. Before booking, I encourage you to read his responses to customer reviews. They provide clear insight into how concerns are handled and reflect the type of interaction you will encounter at this business.

Dear readers -- we take client feedback extremely seriously. This is written by a person who seems unwell and has never received services at this location. You can read the reviews she is spamming all of our pages with (and having friends spam) if you click on her profile. Until yesterday, she had a review up with her own hairstyist (not with us) in which she stated she'd had her own hairstylist arrested as a result of a phsyical altercation they had at a hair appointment. She took that review down once I pointed it out. We wish you well Jassmin and hope you get the help you need. We're rooting for you!

I have had my hair cut by Ross Hamman at Otis & Finn on 44th several times now. I'm always so happy with the work they do. Throughout the cut Ross is always asking questions and making sure that any specific details I want in my cut are done and done right. As a 40 year old I feel remarkably comfortable talking about thinning and gray hair with Ross, and Ross has an excellent understanding of how to work with both! Get your hair cut from Ross at Otis on 44th in LIC!!!

David - thank you so much for taking the time to leave the kind feedback! Clients like you make our job fun. Appreciate you and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Came here based on the glowing reviews even though it’s a bit more compared to what I usually pay. The barber rushed through my haircut, seemed annoyed when I asked them to take off a little more, and then just said he was done without asking if I was happy (I obviously wasn’t). I could’ve gotten the same haircut for $20 at any random haircut place. No one cuts my hair like my barber in Rome. 😩
Owner's response
Humberto — I’m really sorry to hear that this was your experience today. What you've described is unacceptable. In fact, it is our explicit policy for barbers to confirm with the client that they are completely happy with their cut before getting out of the chair. That policy is why we have the other glowing reviews you mentioned, and I am so sorry that didn't happen for you.

I have already reached out to the barber you had to discuss the situation and make sure it doesn't happen again for you or anyone else.

I’d love the chance to make it right. Our co-owner, Kirk, would love to take a look and make any adjustments you want, to make sure you leave happy — the way it should’ve been from the jump. Free of charge, and at your convenience, of course.

Please email me directly at shawn@otisandfinn.com to set that up and discuss. We’d really appreciate the chance to earn back your trust. Thank you again for letting us know, and I’m sorry we let you down.

Shawn
Owner

Turning Looks, Stunting Pretty… this is the BEST barbershop in New York City!! I’ve been in NYC for over 15 years, I’ve gone to a ton of places for a haircut, however the most consistent with everything across the board is Otis & Finn! I am an OG of their LIC 44th Ave location ( 1 of 4, yes FOUR locations!) and I have been going to Joel for awhile and they are absolutely incredible! Always understands exactly what you need, can sense if you’re in the mood to chat or just chill (we’ve all had those barbers who don’t have this skill 🙈🤫) , and don’t get me wrong… Kirk, Paolo, EVERY single person on their roster is giving 10s across the board, so if you’re hesitant to find a new place/new barber their eye to give you the best cut is going to be achieved! Legit I go every 2-3 weeks because I feel refreshed and revived, I mean if we’re gonna be pounding this pavement we might as well feel put together & cute!!

We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Update: Editing my rating from a 2 to a 1. Shop owner isn't friendly & I wouldn't give my money to this establishment. Instead of acknowledging that the haircut rendered wasn't very good, which is obvious from the photos, I was accused by the shop owner of being a "badge chasing" critic, as if I wanted to get a bad haircut. Also, "dancing on the lines of defamation", seriously this shop owner needs to get over their victim complex. As a shop owner, if someone tells you an employee isn't doing a great job, you should create a learning opportunity, not be dismissive. Shop owner, I would've given this shop a second chance, but given the snarky nature of the response, I'll take my business elsewhere. Best of luck. Original Review: The first thing that should be noted is that staff is really respectful and the space is really nice, outside of that, I wasn't impressed. This being my first time going here, I set up an appointment with Paolo at 1:30, and he was running an hour behind (this happens, no worries) and was offered to get a haircut from Joel. Joel is a really nice person and enthusiastic, but he certainly didn't deliver a $60 haircut (with tip). I asked for a high fade with a 1/2 & a 1 on the sides. You can see in the pictures that there is no fade, no blending, and neither side is even to the other. Probably most worrying is that he tried to finish the haircut without using a razor to clean up the lines. No experienced barber in NYC would let you out of their chair without lining you up. And to top it off, he ended up cutting me when attempting to clean the sides. All in all, Joel seems like a nice guy, but I was hoodwinked by the shop into paying $60 (with tip) for an apprentice haircut. If you're going to give someone to an apprentice, it's only right you tell them, and allow them to make an informed decision..

Hi Anthony,

I am truly very sorry you didn't get the experience you wanted. It bothers me when our clients don't have a great experience. That's why I leave my cards at the checkout register beneath a sign that says "contact the owner." I encourage people to give honest feedback directly to me so that I can address any issues quickly and, where possible, remedy the situation. Often we can even do it on the spot. That's the great thing about small businesses and what makes them unique.

That can't happen, however, when I read about issues or complaints for the first time on the internet. But, I get it. We all want to be Pete Wells or Roger Ebert a little bit. The down side of that is, like here, small businesses and our workers sometimes have their names and work publicly criticized on the internet before we're contacted or given a chance to address or make a situation right. Such is life in the age of google badge chasers I guess, and I see you are a very prolific reviewer.

Again, I am truly sorry you didn't get the exact cut you wanted. We try for that every time, and it didn't happen here and I regret that. I also regret I wasn't aware of your complaint sooner. My partner also works in that shop and he would have been happy to step in and make any adjustments in real time if he'd known you were unhappy.

That said, I do take issue with you publicly saying we "hoodwinked" you into a cut with an apprentice barber. That didn't happen. It's not only unnecessarily harsh, it dances on the line of defamation. Joel is a licensed master barber with over three years' experience behind the chair in NYC. He's truly excellent at the craft and I am thrilled and proud he works with us. Not only is he a fantastic person (which I appreciate you mentioning), I trust his work 100%. In fact, my most recent skin fade was done by him, and I am a picky client as you might imagine. Lastly, just for the record, our cuts are $50.

Apologies again you weren't happy. I sincerely wish you the best and encourage you to take your issues directly to small businesses when you can. It helps us improve the experience for everyone. I am always happy to talk and reachable at shawn@otisandfinn.com. All the best.
Shawn

I visited this space for a private party after the barbershop closed ** so this is NOT A REVIEW OF THEIR SERVICES **. I also did not meet the owner(s) or staff. I loved the venue, decor, and overall vibes. The unique pig theme, Basquiat crown, graffiti wall and Dolly Parton references looked cool in the dim light. The crowned pig mural made an excellent backdrop for the cake and photos. It felt like an homage to the hiphop/graffiti scene that once defined LIC (remember Five Pointz?). The pineapple-wallpapered bathroom was spacious enough it could possibly accommodate a wheelchair but I am not sure since the door felt a bit narrow. Their barbershop rates, merch, and products were still on display so I included pictures for reference. They have steep prices, some almost double the cost for the service in general. That said, this wasn't a trip to the barber so I can't assess whether it's worth the expense. Hopefully it is. Overall, the room acoustics, decor, and wide open floorplan made for a perfect night of dancing. I truly hope they host more things and moonlight as an event space!
