I've been going to Evan for several years. I've since moved out of the neighborhood, and still go out of my way to have Evan cut my hair. He's simply the best in the business, and I couldn't recommend him (or his other barbers) highly enough.

I struggled for years to find a barber who could actually get my hair right, and I usually left shops feeling unsatisfied. That changed the moment I met Evan. Being Asian/Pacific Islander, I’ve found that not everyone knows how to handle my hair type, but Evan just gets it. He has an incredible eye for how a style should proportion to your head and face shape. I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first because I had never spent over $50 on a haircut, but I can confidently say it is worth every penny. I always leave the shop feeling like a new person. Beyond the skill, Evan is a genuinely kind person who clearly cares about his craft and his clients. I only wish I’d found Monteman Barber sooner!

Found this place about 2-3 years ago while looking for a barbershop in Brooklyn. Booked an appointment with Evan and have been a customer ever since. Stuff is super friendly and Evan nails the haircut all the time. Highly recommend this place!

First time in NYC, just for a weekend, and I got the best haircut I’ve literally ever received at Monteman’s. I couldn’t wait to come back, and Evan the master barber did not disappoint. Yes, I did wait 2 months to cut my hair in between 😆

Been going to Monteman since 2023 and it’s hands down the best barbershop in NYC!! Evan is the best barber ever and his whole team is incredible as well, the service is beyond amazing!! If I could give them 100 stars I would.

I grew a long beard for the first time and after 8 months it didn't look right, Evan shaped it professionally and it looks like from a magazine, I didn't know it could look so good. The service is 10/10, I would recommend it to anyone who needs beard maintenance.

I rarely write reviews, and when I do, it’s because that service truly deserves recognition. Monteman deserves such! First off, they truly treat you as a human and work with you. When my train into the city was late, they gave me no issue with pushing the haircut back by an hour. Understanding that delays are just a part of the world we live in now. Once I arrived, I was greeted with nothing but smiles and handshakes. Ivan was my barber today, and took the upmost care of me. I think from the get go he understood I was an introvert, and just let me relax and enjoy the haircut, instead of the small talk I’m never a fan of. The haircut, and straight razor shave, was exactly what I needed for my upcoming wedding. I’ll ever go as far as saying best haircut of my life. Thank you to Ivan, Evan, and the entire Monteman team!

There’s a reason this place has five stars. I had my haircut done by Evan, and it’s honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. He was incredibly friendly, made great suggestions for my hair, and was super patient when I showed up late due to bus issues. Evan treats everyone who walks in with the same kindness and enthusiasm. Highly recommend both him and this shop! I would trust any of these guys to cut my hair.
