I've always went to Dominican/PuertoRican barbershop and did fades and crisp line ups and hard or soft part comb over, and beard...but growing my hair out to met with Selwyn and discussing where I wish to go, he set us up a game plan. Definitely knows what he is doing. First ever hair cut I received that started with sheets over clippers. Amazing work, knows how to remove excess bulk and keep the style. Razor work is sharp and I know as I progress with growth and growing out Selwyn will keep me in check! 10000% amazing cut and clean facility great staff and everything.

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Modern Classics South End. About a week before my appointment, I called specifically to explain what I was looking for. I asked to be paired with a barber who is strong with scissors and longer hair, and I made it clear I was willing to wait for the right person. I also agreed to the $65 price point with the expectation that I’d receive a proper consultation and professional guidance on the cut. Especially since that level of service is typically what you’re paying for at that price. That did not happen. There was no real consultation, no ongoing discussion during the haircut, and no advice on how to shape or maintain the style I wanted. I told the barber I only wanted a small amount taken off, and instead my hair was completely butchered. The end result is nothing close to what I asked for, and I’m genuinely unhappy with it. When you don’t know exactly how a cut should be executed, you rely on the barber’s expertise. That’s the service. Unfortunately, that expertise and communication were missing here. I won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend this shop to anyone looking for longer, scissor-focused cuts or a consultative experience.

Started seeing Jake in 2019 and haven’t thought twice about going anywhere else. The environment, experience, and quality that you receive from not only Jake but all of the other barbers are unmatched. If you have a barbershop that provides a consistent service look no further. My kids, kids, kids will be Modern Classics customers. 🫡

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Jake Boyle since early 2019, and he is hands down the best barber in Charlotte. I’m very picky about my haircuts, but Jake gets it right every single time. What I love most is that even after years of sitting in his chair, he always takes the time to consult with me first, listening to exactly what I want and delivering a perfect men’s haircut every visit. Jake is not only a skilled barber but also one of the funniest guys you’ll meet. The small talk and jokes make every appointment feel more like catching up with a friend than just getting a haircut. I actually look forward to my haircut every three weeks because the experience is that good. The shop itself, Modern Classics, has the best vibe in Charlotte. It’s clean, stylish, and has a true classic barbershop feel with a modern touch. The whole team is welcoming, and the atmosphere makes you want to hang out even after your cut. If you’re searching for the top barbershop in Charlotte for fades, classic cuts, or modern styles, look no further than Jake at Modern Classics. No comparison, this is the place!

If I could give 6 stars I would. Best barber shop in town. Been going consistently for 2.5 years and have only ever had great experiences. Jacob takes care of me every time and always exceeds my expectations. Vibe of the shop is super chill and welcoming to everyone. 10/10 recommend Modern Classics.

Best barbers in Charlotte. I have been working with Matt for 5 years now and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Matt cuts and styles my hair and beard based on my preference and his expertise. It always looks great. Thanks Matt and thanks MCSE for keeping me looking sharp all these years!

I’ve been going to Modern since I moved to Charlotte from Houston several years ago. I highly recommend Brandon and the team. Always a great haircut and flexible with work schedules. They have multiple locations too in case you aren’t close to South End. By far the best barbershop in Charlotte. Cheers, Cam

Jake does a fantastic job on my cut, and the shop is always clean with a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. I went to 4 other barbershops in Charlotte before I finally found Modern Classics. This place is hands down the best in the area. The atmosphere is chill, the guys are all great, and they genuinely care about the cut they’re giving you. They take a consultative approach and will make suggestions based on your hair and style, which was a nice change from many other barbershops I tried. I usually get my hair cut by Jake or Magz, but I’d trust anyone here to give a great haircut!
