This is one of those double edge sword kind of places - they are busy because they are good and they are good because they are busy. You might get lucky and they have an opening for a walk in, or you might have to wait 2 weeks to book a cut with your favorite barber. The choice is yours. The chillest, easiest to hang with, and friendliest barber spot in South Minneapolis. Show up early and relax on the couch, catch up with your neighbors and you might even get a puppy smooch or two from the shop dog/s.

I am currently being treated for breast cancer and experienced immense hair loss from chemo. It was time to shave my head yesterday. Before I sat down in the chair, one of the barbers said they would open the shop for me with no other guests if I wanted privacy. I thought that was an exceptionally kind gesture. I declined, because the hair needed to go. It was a very vulnerable experience and everyone who works at Southside helped me feel comfortable. Pete, the barber, did an excellent job carefully shaving my head (crucial while undergoing chemo) and was extremely kind. I can’t thank the staff enough for managing a difficult situation with care and compassion. I am so glad I chose Southside Barber Lounge for this experience.

I'm disappointed to leave this review, but I feel compelled to write about my most recent experience here that made me leave this shop. I'd seen a barber here for close to a year. The cuts were "good enough" I'd say, never really loved them. My biggest thing was that I felt the fades were kinda weak. I like more intense skin fades and he had a hard time taking it there even when I showed him photos. So when I finally found THE PHOTO I thought would make him execute what I wanted, I couldn't wait. The attached photo is what I showed him and told him I wanted, and what I received. It's nothing like it. Even the placement is wrong. I had an important event the next day and the photos make me wince. The fade looks weak, at least a week old, and uninspired. If your clients show you a photo you're supposed to make them look like the photo. Anything else is either: 1) a competency issue; 2) a respect issue, both of which need to be addressed. I contacted the owner about it and never heard back. Apparently this is the kind of work they stand by.

We love Pete at Southside!! He’s been cutting my son’s hair for a couple years and he always leaves happy with his haircuts. Pete is so friendly and the whole shop has a great vibe. Can’t recommend enough!

I recently came in for the first time after following Lida from another shop. She always does a great job listening and executing the hair cut I describe. I am always comfortable as a non binary trans person, which is not something I can say for every salon or barber shop. She is new to this location, so make sure to get an appointment before her schedule fills up!

About time I left a review. Been going here for a while now (I see Pete). Pete does a great job on my hair and the place is just nice and chill. Highly recommend. The dogs are awesome too.

Best barber shop in town hands down. Had my hair cut by both Mike and Ryan with great results. I don’t live in Minneapolis anymore, as I’ve moved to Duluth, but I made it a point to make the trip back here to get my haircut before my wedding. They’re that good.

Best place in the cities to get your haircut! I’ve been going to Pete for 2 years now he’s amazing! The atmosphere is relaxed and chill. Very friendly people. I cannot recommend them enough!

Recently was on the hunt for a new barber. While waiting outside at the veterinarian, located next door, I watched shaggy, scruffy men go in and sharp looking men come out. Been there twice since C-19 allowed them to be open. They are diligent in making sure all precautions are taken to insure safety without. I think I've found what I was looking for.
