Really was interested in trying out this barbershop. Found out about it through Vagaro. Made a 5:45 appointment with Sterling. Arrived to the shop 15 minutes early, and the door was locked & the lights were off. Waited until 6:15, no call, no show from Sterling. Very disappointed and unprofessional. If the barber couldn’t honor the booking, then a call should’ve been made to reschedule or cancel the booking on their behalf.

Standard Barber Co has an incredible atmosphere. Sam, Vince, and Sterling are always highlights when I come in and I truly enjoy catching up with them during every visit. I would highly recommend getting a cut from Sterling. He always gives me a great cut that has me looking and feeling great! He also takes an interest in my life and I enjoy our conversations so much that I look forward to coming into the barbershop for those as well as the cut. I would highly recommend making a visit over here. One of the best places in the city for a haircut for sure.

Visiting from out of town I was not happy I had to use another barber from my own back home. Sterling Anthony changed my mind. He’s the real deal. Glad I came, he is skilled and pays close attention to detail. Anytime I’m back in Detroit I’ll for sure stop in.

Sterling absolutely crushed the fade and trim! He's a super detail oriented and methodical guy, and has great taste in music to boot. Feelin' good with this cut. Super cool barbershop with a chill atmosphere and nice view of downtown. Definitely comin' back.

Glad I found this shop when I moved to the city! I’ve seen Josh each time and he has never disappointed: I have thick, pin-straight hair typical for Asian men, and he knows how to cut it correctly. Josh gives an excellent fade, offers top-notch service, and is a fantastic conversationalist. The shop has great hours, smart music, and an unbeatable view. Can’t recommend Standard enough.

I started going here in 2013 shortly after they opened. Been getting my hair cut by Jacinto ever since. He's a great guy and an awesome barber. He can provide very interesting conversation and he's very skilled with his cuts. Originally, the price of a cut was about $25. Unfortunately, over the years his price went up (seemingly to match rents downtown) and now it's running $40 just for a haircut. This was the tipping point for me and was not worth it any more, especially when he's constantly(literally every single appointment in the last 6 years) running 10-20 minutes behind. I'll miss going here for the conversation and good times, but $40 is too much for a haircut in this town especially when punctuality is not a priority.

After listening to Sam Whiting be sanctimonious about his barber shop experience, training, and expertise, I expected his haircut to be halfway decent. I could not be more wrong! A day after, when styling the hair myself I discovered he had cut the back uneven. Where one side is long and the other trim. In hindsight, it is not shocking he made a mistake to my cut while talking about himself, his boat and those flannel shirts for the entire 40 minutes. This would be the only bad thing to say, but when I called back today to come in and even it up he told the front desk that the first time he could see me is 12:30pm Monday afternoon, five days from now. It is entirely unacceptable after paying $25 and dealing with severe incompetence and delusion to be told that I have to wait 5 days for a fix. Avoid Sam Whiting and Standard Barber if you want a haircut done correctly, the first time. Off to find another Detroit barber..... (Would give 0 stars!)

Great guys, great hair products. Maybe a little overpriced for the cuts, but I like the interior design.

I went here twice. Almost three times. This place is the epitome of hipster. First time, I walked in and the reception man told me immediately that I had to make an appointment. The barber must have taken sympathy because he cut my hair then and there and I was happy. Second time I made an appointment. Good clean cut. I noted that every guy in the joint gets the same trendy haircut. Third time I also made an appointment for 4:15. I showed up at 4:20, and reception man told me that the barber left for the day. I was extremely disappointed. I took my business elsewhere, and found an awesome barber downtown that's been cutting hair for decades!

Sure it's a fun, trendy place, but there is nothing special about the haircut whatsoever and it is overpriced compared to better options downtown. When I went to get my haircut, my barber was sleeping in the chair for 10 minutes while I waited not knowing what to do. He then cut my crown too short and left me with hairs sticking up in the back. I go to a different barber in the city now who is helping me grow it back out and fix it - for cheaper!
