As a healthcare provider myself, I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel this experience deserves one. I booked a free demo session at Roxy Barber Acupuncture & Aesthetics after seeing an Instagram post offering a complimentary Piezoelectric Acoustic Compression Therapy treatment in exchange for honest feedback. I followed all the instructions, created a profile in the patient portal, and signed multiple consent forms â including one specific to the piezoelectric therapy. However, three additional consent packets in the portal listed a wide range of treatments that did not apply to me. I explained to Roxy that I had signed everything relevant but did not feel comfortable signing consents for unrelated procedures. Throughout my visit she repeatedly said things like âno one in 20 years has refused thisâ and âmy lawyers require it,â yet never once acknowledged my concerns or reassured me. After much back-and-forth, she printed the forms that I had refused to sign so I could cross out and initial the sections that didnât applyâ page after page â while she continued to complain about the situation. Not one of the 50 pages applied to my treatment except for the first paragraph, which was a duplicate of a prior consent form that I did sign. When I pointed out that the final signature page was missing, she became more frustrated and ultimately canceled my appointment on the spot. This was supposed to be a complimentary session in exchange for feedback, but I had already spent considerable time filling out paperwork, traveling, and sitting in the office, only to be turned away. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. I cannot speak to Roxyâs skills as a practitioner since I never received the treatment, but my experience with her officeâs policies and her handling of the situation left me extremely disappointed. Based on this interaction, I would not recommend this practice to anyone who values professionalism, respect for patientsâ time, and clear communication. At minimum, review all paperwork carefully and be prepared for potential complications before booking. Update: the following clarifies, my original review and light of the owners response. 1. I did sign a separate HIPAA consent form and a second separate consent form for the actual treatment I was scheduled to receive. 2. What I did NOT sign were three separate consent packets, each covering treatments and procedures that did not apply to me. I have screenshots of the print window of ONE of the THREE electronic files, showing the 28-page length. The other two files I refused to sign were of similar length. 3. The electronic system provided no option to decline consent for these non-applicable treatments. Ultimately, the packets were printed, and every page was crossed out and initialed to indicate that none of the content applied to meâas I had already explained. 4. Throughout this process, the practitioner repeatedly stated that her lawyer required all of these papers and that no one in 20 years had ever raised an issue, but she never acknowledged my specific concerns or offered an apology. She also appeared unfamiliar with the actual contents of the packets. Iâm sharing this update to provide a clear and factual account of what occurred so that prospective clients can make an informed decision.

Deanna:

It is unfortunate that you were unable to receive your free PiezoWave treatment at my office. It is a truly exceptional device with fast results for pain and injuries that patients have grown to love.

For clarity, every patient in my office is asked to complete the consent forms that cover all treatments offered. This does not obligate anyone to receive every service, it simply ensures that if a patient chooses additional therapies in the future, proper consent is already in place. This process also helps the office stay organized and to keep pricing more affordable without the need for additional administrative staff. Additionally, nothing gets missed this way.

I understand the forms may have felt extensive, and I did my best to accommodate you by providing a printed copy for review. However, the required legal sections, such as the Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP), which is mandated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Authorization for Treatment were both crossed out. Those consents are designed to protect the patient and the practitioner. I explained that I could not proceed with treatment without those forms signed, as they are legally required. As a healthcare professional yourself, I trust you can appreciate that treating a patient without proper documentation would not be appropriate or compliant. At that point, it became clear that my practice was not the right fit for your needs which became more evident the further we spoke.

I always strive to provide a respectful, professional environment where patients feel comfortable and supported. Iâm sorry this was not your experience and wish you the very best in finding care that aligns with your comfort level and health needs.
