This was like any other barbershop for 2x the price with suggested tip options of 80%, 90%, 100% and 110% which was outrageous. For $80 dollars I thought it would be more of a high end experience but it was just like any other barbershop. I was hoping to find a new hair style and reading the online description of “barbers will go over every detail of your hair growth, hair lay, product use, and more” I had that expectation. Unfortunately, none of that happened and the barber just ran with the first thing I suggested without any input. It is to my opinion that you can get the same quality haircut and service at other barbershops for half the price or less.

Owner's response

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Jonathan.

I’m genuinely sorry the experience didn’t meet your expectations. To clarify, tipping is always optional, which is why guests are never required to tip.

Regarding the consultation, we did spend time discussing your goal of growing your hair out. When that’s the objective, it naturally limits how much can be taken off without setting the process back. That’s why we went along the lines of a taper and talked through hair pattern, weight, and product use. We discussed minimizing shampooing and leaving more oil in the hair to help with wave definition and weight as it grows.

I understand pricing can be subjective. What I personally like to focus on is the quality and detail of the haircut. With many clients, it can sometimes take a couple of visits to fully dial in hair preferences and styling goals.

Regardless, I appreciate the feedback! I genuinely hope you find the right shop that best aligns with your expectations and hair goals. Wishing you the best.

Yes, Venice beach has high prices, Ben is a business owner and has to keep these doors open. Ben owns this business and loves what he does. Barbershops are just as much about the atmosphere as they are the actual cut, and this shop is exceptional in both arenas. He exemplifies Venice beach as he perfectly blends his knowledge in many areas into conversations with all different cultures & walks of life while providing incredibly sharp fades, and beard trimming. You will leave this shop feeling renewed and more confident than when you came in. It feels like a young millionaires club at this shop, and you will be provided that aesthetic every single time Fantastic experience every time, and Ben is one of my favorite barbers ever 💈 10/10

First of all, big thanks to Benjamin for squeezing me in during the holidays! I used to hair model back in New York City and I appreciate each cosmetologist’s and barber’s style; they’re artists at the end of the day. So, I let him do his thing and didn’t really give him instructions other than, ‘Can you clean me up?.’ Now I now why this place is world famous.

Ben is a terrific barber and an even more terrific human. This barbershop is quite the experience — you can tell so much work went into giving you the best possible experience. I’ve been going here regularly for my fades ever since I moved to the area. Doesn’t disappoint.

At first I was skeptical about the high pricing (well for me, I'm used to $20 haircuts) but I have to say it was well worth the visit. Joe is the one who cut my hair and he was a really cool dude and made it an overall fun experience. We got along well and had a good conversation, which honestly is half of what you're paying for. I greatly enjoyed my experience there and was happy with my haircut. Joe also gave me some recommendations of places to check out around the area as well, and there was definitely a decent bit of things to do there. Thanks Joe!

I always get high quality hair cuts at the Famous Venice Barber Shop. Joe and Ben are the best. If you need a quick cut or even a beard trim, this is the place for you. The eclectic interior is awesome, and they have a lot for cool hair product. Make an appointment on their website and give them a try!

Joe's been cutting my hair for probably a year and a half. Hes a good guy, knows my hair cut, and nails it every time. I can always rely on him to line my beard up right after i mess it up, and as a bonus they have complimentary beer and kombucha. Recently remodeled and the shops looking awesome. Definitely recommend booking with Joe!

Joe gave me an awesome cut and beard trim! He's so chill and really takes his time to do things right. It's a little pricey here compared to my home in Philly, but one of the most reasonably priced in this area. For $60, you're getting a slick, careful cut, beard trim, shave, hot towel treatment, and neck massage. They just don't have these old school yet totally chill barber shops like this back home! Definitely coming back in for a cut every time I'm in town. Thanks Joe!

Hard to beat Benjamin and the team at the World Famous Venice Barber Shop! Very attentive to detail, Ben takes his time to give you a good cut. The LA/Venice ambiance, beer on tap, and Ben’s business adventure stories make it over the top amazing! Good people doing great cuts. I lived in LA for 10 years and had some good barbers, but I’d go out of my way to get Ben to give me the Gentleman’s Haircut any day.
