The Townsend location is the worst barbershop in San Francisco by far. The stylist didn’t pay attention to a single world I said and he gave me the worst haircut I’ve ever had. He kept apologizing towards the end and offered a discount but I’m extremely angry he did not follow the instructions. I will definitely dispute the credit card charges for this haircut. Avoid this location, you’re better off cutting your own hair.

Wanted to sleep on it prior to leaving this review since barber seemed like a nice guy; however I feel the need to post this since a jobs a job and one needs to get better (paid $80 + tip for not something I want). DO NOT COME HERE, there’s a Reddit thread saying not to and I ignored stupidly. Showed the barber what I had in mind prior to cutting but said was open to suggestions (BIG MISTAKE, I expected them to ask/consult instead of jumping into it). Man proceeded to take EXTREME creative liberties instead of consulting me what he had in mind (wanted a two block and instead he cut my hair down to a very tight very flat hair). If he had shown me pics maybe I would’ve been open to it but the man jumped right into it which is why I’m writing this. I asked simple questions about hair products like “what’s sea salt for” and it seemed to stump them all (3 barbers all didn’t know). Only plus side is in 3-4 weeks I have one less barber to consider on my quest to find a place to cut my hair. My hair was a mess so appreciate the help there, however I can’t tell why he thought two block = give a very tight, cut huge lengths off the top.

Update: I explained what happened to the manager and they took care of it. Sometimes it's not about how things go wrong but how you react when they do did a great job. An hour and a half before they changed my appointment time without confirming with me and then charged me for not showing up. The person at the counter had a bad attitude. The person at the counter schedule the wrong time and refuse to do anything about it.

I’m writing to express my frustration with how my appointment was handled at the Townsend St location. I originally booked a haircut on July 7th for July 29th at 4:00 PM. Yesterday, July 28th, I was contacted and asked to move the appointment to 3:30 PM, which I agreed to. Then today at 11:37 AM, I received another message informing me that my original barber was unavailable and was asked to reschedule for Thursday or Friday. I explained that I was traveling the next day and needed a haircut today. The receptionist confirmed that another barber would be available for me at 3:30 PM. I made sure to be near the shop to arrive on time, only to receive a call at 3:15 PM—while I was just a block away on foot—saying they had made a mistake and no one was available after all. This level of service is unacceptable, especially considering the premium pricing -$75+ I’ve been a loyal client for over two years, and while I’ve experienced scheduling issues before, this was by far the most disappointing. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address the recurring scheduling issues.

I have been getting my hair cut by Jesse M for last couple of years. He has been very consistent every single time. Get a barber who is more patient than you and I definitely found one in Jesse. I recently moved to foster city but I still try to make trips to San Francisco to get my haircut by Jesse. Appreciate it 😍

Rhonda Gallegos at People’s Barber at Townsend st San Francisco is absolutely incredible! I’ve been a loyal client of hers for over five years, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my hair. Rhonda has a true gift—not only is she highly skilled in her craft, but she also takes the time to listen and understand exactly what I want. Whether it’s a fresh cut or styling for a special occasion, Rhonda always delivers beyond my expectations. Her attention to detail and ability to work with all hair types is unmatched, and I always leave feeling confident and refreshed. On top of her amazing talent, Rhonda creates such a warm and welcoming atmosphere at People’s Barber. Her professionalism, genuine care for her clients, and vibrant personality make every visit a pleasure. If you’re looking for a barber who will exceed your expectations every time, I highly recommend Rhonda. She’s the best in the business!

I had a pretty poor experience here. I wanted some styling advice from the barber who was disinterested in doing so. After a few minutes of him saying “whatever you want”, we decided on a cut and I could tell he was annoyed because he was pretty rough with the cut. At the end I could tell the cut wasn’t done too well and pretty bummed with my experience.

I had an excellent experience at The People’s Barbershop on Townsend Street in downtown San Francisco (South of Market). The People’s Barbershop has several locations in the Bay Area (San Francisco and Oakland). The shop is modern, clean, well lite, and has qualified and talented barbers. Luckily, personal services have been deemed safe in the city, and like so many, I was in need of a haircut. The People’s Barbershop takes walk-in and appointments, but, I highly recommend making an appointment online. This can be easily done on their website, just pick the location and you can pick the barber and the service needed. Most appointments are in 30 - 45 minute increments based on the service you need. One of the best features about the site is that you can see a picture of the barber, select a service and see their professional Instagram page. This is a clutch feature, especially if you’re getting your haircut for the first time, by a new barber, which was my experience. I got a cut from Cristian and it was excellent. He is professional, talented, and personable. I highly recommend the brand and if you’re in need of a good barber, schedule an appointment with him.
