A basic skill every barber should know is how to blend or fade hair length. I came with hair long enough to get the cut in the image attached. Explained what I wanted and S. Charles started by removing the length that I wanted off the sides. Then he tried fixing my left side by cutting more. And more. Instead of blending the length he kept cutting until eventually he gave up

Got a great cut from S. Charles. They were professional and efficient, with a lot of attention to detail!

Louie’s Barbershop feels like stepping into a neighborhood that remembers how to take care of its own. The moment I walked in, I could feel the intention behind the place, the way an old-style barbershop holds time a little differently. The chairs have weight, the mirrors have stories, and the atmosphere carries that rare mix of craftsmanship and ease. The team knows their trade, and they treat every cut like a conversation, not a transaction. Everything feels unhurried, precise, and rooted in a tradition that many modern shops have traded away. I left with a clean, thoughtful cut, although the real takeaway was the experience itself. Louie’s preserves a kind of dignity that has become hard to find in San Francisco. If you appreciate barbershops that honor the classics while staying genuine and welcoming, this is the place. I will absolutely be back.

I always enjoy Carlos careful haircuts, handsome smile, easy going nature, and I walk out extremely pleased. After returning from a long summer vacation, Carlos has me all clean cut perfectly again. Thanks a million Carlos. Beautiful, clean, classy shop, friendly barbers. Dedicated customer here, Paul Koch

Do not come here! Steve was not accommodating whatsoever. Asked for a simple fade and showed him a picture. There was zero fade it went from 0 to my hair as it was before I showed up. Looked so awful no blending or anything. I asked if he can go higher and blend and he said NO??

It was my first time at Louies yesterday afternoon and S. Charles cut my hair. The cut was good and services great, but he was less than personable, hard to talk to, and made the experience uncomfortable.

I really like Bon! He does a great job every time. The shop itself is adorable and has good window views of Castro. Unfortunately, the wait list is very inaccurate and difficult to schedule around unless you have all day to wait. That plus it being cash only has led me elsewhere.

S. Charles is an excellent barber and cleaned me up real nice. He takes his job seriously, and I was so excited and rejuvenated to see the excellence of his work and have my beard cleaned up. Great iconic shop too

I love Louie's. It's very closely intertwined with how I grew into SF, coming here only two months after my 18th birthday. I worked next door at Marcello's for four years during college. Don (now retired) was a regular friendly face. I had long hair for a decade, so I never actually needed a haircut until I turned the corner on 30. Ever since, I've been a regular patron of Steve, who is the longest active barber out of the current crew. He's fantastic as are all the barbers. My husband has been trimmed by all of them. My penchant for sticking with one barber is just something I picked up from my father. The atmosphere inside this place is so cool. The old school barber joint I went to as a kid in the 90s had one barber who would do one of three "styles", it was dusty, and at the time felt like a relic of the past soon to be taken over completely by Great Clips. Louie's shows the demand for these places is extremely high, and in the right hands can flourish.
