This place is horrible. My husband took my son there just now to get my son's side swept bangs textured on his long haircut. He showed the barber pictures for reference and the barber said he'd do it then proceeded to absolutely butcher his hair then had the audacity to say that my son needed to go to a stylist if he wanted it textured even though he had said he could do the style in the beginning. And charged my husband full price! I'm also noticing that he took chunks out of the back of my son's hair too. I'm so tired of these barbers who can't do any style other than ones that require clippers. My son looks like that stranger things character named will buyers on season two, which takes place in the 70s btw. I added a Pic of the character so you guys can see for yourselves. Please don't waste your money!

WORST BARBERSHOP EXPERIENCES I’VE EVER HAD, BUT… I came in for a BASIC CLEAN-UP. My hair was ALREADY LOOKING GOOD… just needed a quick shape-up on a FLAT TOP style. I sat in the chair, and the OWNER started cutting. I expected PROFESSIONALISM, but what I got was the opposite. The haircut was UNEVEN across the top, the BLEND WAS OFF, and the lines were NOT STRAIGHT. Instead of correcting mistakes, he kept PRESSING DOWN the areas he’d messed up… as if hiding the uneven spots would fix them. When I checked the mirror, I IMMEDIATELY KNEW it didn’t look right. After I went home and took a shower, I picked my hair out… and it was a MESS. UNEVEN, LOPSIDED, and EMBARRASSING. I actually had to CANCEL MY PLANS because I COULDN’T SHOW MY FACE looking like that. Since they opened late that day, I found another barber across town who SAVED THE DAY and FIXED IT. But before that, I TOOK PICTURES because I had a feeling this place wouldn’t own up to the mistake. When I returned to talk to the owner, he REFUSED to admit there was any issue. He even asked my family member to wait OUTSIDE before we could talk… something I’ve NEVER encountered in a customer service setting. I showed him the PHOTOS, and as the rest of the shop looked at them, people started LAUGHING because the cut was THAT BAD. Even with all that, he STILL DENIED a refund. He offered a “free cut” next time… but I was leaving the STATE and the COUNTRY, and wouldn’t be back for years. When I DID return, I gave him a chance to stand by his word with a basic lineup… and he didn’t come through. NOW LET ME EXPLAIN WHY I’M STILL GIVING THIS PLACE FIVE STARS Yes, this experience was ROUGH… but I’ve read enough reviews to see that OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF here. I also RESPECT that the owner is creating OPPORTUNITIES and JOBS for others in the community. That matters. Sometimes, BAD EXPERIENCES can become lessons… and hopefully, this one was. I’m leaving the stars at MAXIMUM because I WANT THIS BUSINESS TO SUCCEED and CONTINUE GROWING.

I’m from Chicago & new to area and called Nappy Roots because I had a job interview coming up soon & wanted to find a reputable barber in the area. Ray (owner) answered the phone and was able to fit me in. The haircut exceeded my expectations & I couldn’t have been more pleased with the quality of service provided. I finally have found my go to barber in the area. Keep it up Ray!

Still feels like home. Would not go to any other Barber shop in the I.E.. Every barber is good. I go to Johny blends(Jonathan) always keeps me right! Example, a guy came in with extreme balding and after he got out of his chair he had a hair line and a faid. Without any of that spray. Just clippers and a talented barber.

As usual my experience at Nappy Roots was superb. Ray, cut my grandson's hair; he did an awesome job! Approximately, two weeks ago he also cut my hair. I have, on and off since 2013 been getting hair care services. When traveling into Cally, I stopped by to have my hair done by Cherise (hope I spelled her name correctly). In addition, the atmosphere is awesome; and all the stylist and barbers are wonderful. And, ladies if you have one of the barbers cut your hair, do not worry the men do not have potty mouths; they are extremely respectful. As for Cherise, she will make you look like a new woman; she works miracles. THANK. YOU!

I’ve been a customer here for a little over a year, and I refuse to go anywhere else! Ray (RJ) is patient, professional, and consitent. He takes pride in his work, and the end result is always on point. He listens to his clients and makes sure they're satisfied with his services. I definitely recommend stopping in to get a cut from Ray. He also does facials! They’re super relaxing. I almost fell asleep during mine. If he isn’t available (you have to book an appointment in advance), I recommend going to Ray (Pops) for a cut. He’s great, too! Pops offers walk-ins. There are two other barbers in the shop, but I haven’t gotten cut by them, so I can’t speak from experience. They do, however, have regular customers as well. As far as the shop as a whole, I enjoy the atmosphere. I never feel out of place or uncomfortable. The only problems I have are the “barbershop talk” and how loud it gets sometimes (from people talking). Otherwise, it’s great. Ladies, there’s also a salon attached to the barbershop, but it has its own section (there are two separate entrances).

Great barbershop. Ray Sr has been cutting my hair for the last few years and does a great job. Clean shop, when I bring my daughter with they change the music so there is no explicit lyrics. Best shop in the IE hands down.
