I was a walk in customer. Rudy was nice and I love his dog. My haircut was OK but nothing amazing, he just did a basic cut. No hot towel or razor for the back of the neck. For $60 I guess I expected a little more. Most barbers automatically use a mirror to show you the back, but he didn't. Update: Rudy said they don't shave the back of the neck because of razor burn, but would do it on request. While that's nice, a barber should be able to shave you without giving you razor burn. That's what makes a barber a barber and not a hairstylist.

Owner's response

Hi Chris! So sorry to hear we didn't live up to a 5-star review from you. We have some clients who prefer not to have their necks shaved because it causes razor burn, but we are always happy to provide that if you request it. Please let us know next time as we will be happy to do it.

My hair stylist of almost ten years moved away suddenly. I waited until the last minute and needed a quick cut before my nephew's graduation. A friend recommended Chris at Circa 33. He has amazing reviews and good work on his Instagram, but he was booked solid, so I made an appointment with Jose. All seemed fine until the point I was in the chair and an earlier client called the shop to complain about their haircut. They wanted to come back and have someone other than Jose fix it, which offended Jose. I know all of this because the shop owner and Jose discussed it while I was having my hair cut, which was awkward and a little uncomfortable. Jose was pretty upset and complained about his other client for a solid ten minutes, acted flustered and started cutting my hair really roughly. At one point, I felt a pinch and said "ouch." Jose remarked I had sensitive skin. I couldn't see anything in the mirror he gave me to check, so I assumed everything was fine and left after my cut. On the drive home, I felt a wetness on my neck, it turned out to be a bit of blood. Apparently, I was nicked with the clippers. Again, not a big deal, I understand things happen and people have bad days. When I got home however, I saw that my hairline in the back was cut at a pretty severe angle. Not only was my skin broken, but the back of my neck was mangled by the clippers. I'm almost 40 years old and I've never left a haircut bleeding, with such an uneven hairline in the back, or had a stylist take out their frustrations about another client out on me. A hat isn't going to cover this..now I have to go to a graduation and work for the next few weeks looking like this. I’m pretty mad a professional would let someone walk out of their shop looking like this. Beyond the damage, I brought a photo of a haircut the shop did and what I received isn't even close to what I asked for. To be fair, the shop owner, Chris, was really nice about it and offered to have me come back and see another barber, but after they way Jose talked about his last unhappy client in front of me I wouldn't feel comfortable. I'm not a review person, I'm pretty easy going and I don't usually complain, but this was not a good experience.

Owner's response

Hi Joey. I was so sorry to read this review and I really apologize about your experience at the shop. As a small business owner, it is our desire that everyone leave here 100% satisfied. And in this instance, we clearly failed you. I also appreciate you letting us know these things so that we can make some changes so that these things do not happen again in the future. Once again, we apologize and hope you will give us another shot to make this right.

Went to this shop last minute, and they were able to squeeze me in. The shop was clean, and Jose was professional, courteous, and did a great job. I wanted a couple of touch-ups, and he didn’t bat an eye—he was patient, made sure I felt comfortable, and knew exactly when to advise and when to step back. I really appreciated that. Definitely coming back and recommending this place!

Owner's response

Thank you Ahmad for such a nice review!

I have been searching for a great barber in LA for a very long time, and I have finally found one! Jose did an incredible job. He was the first barber to offer to cut my hair the old fashioned way, with scissors! Instead of a buzzer. Very happy customer.

Owner's response

Thank you Franco! We really appreciate such a nice review.

I absolutely love my new haircut thanks to Jenae. She was professional, friendly, and I noticed that she really took the time to style my hair to the length I wanted. I feel like a million bucks and will be returning to your salon for sure!

Owner's response

Thank you Alejandra! Looking forward to seeing you again!

I have gotten a haircut with Chris for over two years, I can only say that Chris is an excellent barber. His skills and knowledge to achieve what what I always ask him to do is beyond extraordinary. Additionally, The other barbers at Circa 33 are beside being excellent barbers, very welcoming people and they have always made me feel like I am at home. Thanks Chris and your barbers too for your great services. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Owner's response

Thank you Gilberto! We love to hear that about our shop. Thanks so much!

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this salon. From start to finish, the service was unprofessional, rushed, and far from acceptable. I showed the stylist exactly how I wanted my haircut, but he cut way too much, completely ignoring my instructions. It felt like he was more concerned with getting the job done quickly rather than delivering quality work. The shampooing process was equally unpleasant. The water started cold, then turned warm, and eventually became too hot. On top of that, water splashed onto my face multiple times, making the whole experience uncomfortable and messy. It was clear that there was little care or attention being given. The haircut tools were also a big issue – they were poorly maintained and caused pain multiple times. The stylist hurt my head and even grazed my ear. When I mentioned that it was hurting, he dismissively said, “That’s fine, not bleeding.” It was shocking to see such a lack of professionalism and disregard for customer comfort. I would strongly suggest they replace their tools and improve their standards. To make matters worse, the stylist’s next appointment arrived while he was still working on my haircut. At that point, he became visibly impatient and rushed through the rest of the session. He even removed my robe and told me we were done, only to realize he had forgotten to clean up and trim the back of my head. This lack of attention to detail was frustrating and unacceptable. Finally, the experience ended on a rude note. When I went to pay, the staff member threw my card onto the desk instead of handing it back politely. This unnecessary gesture summed up the overall lack of professionalism and respect during my visit. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. The service was rushed, careless, and unprofessional, with poor tools and a rude attitude. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for a proper haircut.

Owner's response

We are very sorry Jason about your experience at our shop. We never want anyone to feel this way and actually strive for the complete opposite. We will be reaching out to you to discuss this with you and hear your feedback. Hopefully we can convince you to come back in and give us another shot.

I came to this place the first day I moved to LA, and I haven’t gone anywhere else since! Chris always does a killer job, super professional, and knows how to have a good conversation. Super nice person that changes a fair price for the quality of work. I would recommend him to anyone looking to get a new haircut. Thanks Chris!

Owner's response

Thank you Griffin! We really appreciate it!
